In Retrospect Although two years is a comparatively short span in the lives ol Junior College students. our class of '39 leaves behind memories of achievements any class would be proud to possess. sophomores success- fully headed our College Club, Blazer. VV.A.A., the basketball team, Student Council, and the Honor Roll. Through the work of the sophomore class. together with the freshmen, i959 was made an enjoyable- social year. The fall formal, the spring formal, the costume ball, mixers, and roller skating parties all prove this fact. Headed during the First year by Dick Hutchinson. Ray Sloul, and Bob Dowse. the class of '59 got off to a good start. The-y kept up the good work during the following year under such able officers as Orrin Long, Ellsworth lVlcGovney, and Joe Deutsch. Orrin, a student of debate and one of our leading actors, was one of the most willing workers in llc. Ever-ready to help out in problems of any kind, u0rrie led the class in a way to be commended. The vice-president was not lar behind President Long in making '39 a year to be remembered. ulylagoozfy as he is lamiliarly known, worked hard on everything he undertook, and he was a faithful member of the Student Council. A familiar figure around school was the class secretary, Joe Deutsch. The only thing one needs to say about Joe is that he always had the best inte-rests of the school at heart. As our yell leader. he kept up the spirits of our college students at the basketball games. He continued this in other school activities, With such line leaders as these, it is no wonder that the class of '39 leaves an indelible impression in the annals of Joliet Junior College. Vvhat would the students of Junior College do without The Blazern? As a a single mimeographed sheet, The Blazer First made its appearance in l930. The pur- pose of the paper was. and still is, to give the students an accurate account of the activities. to present readable- and interesting features, stories, humor. and editorials. The effect which the paper strives to create is a composite word picture of student life. At present it has a one hundred per cent circu- lation among the student laody of the college, as the paper is included in the student activity fee. The Blazer is strictly a student affair. Responsibility and credit for the entire puta- lication belong to students. The BLAZER Publioizes This year the publication has been under the editorship of George Galvin. George has worked hard to make the paper a suc- cess, and it is through his untiring efforts with the cooperation of the other members of the stalzf that the paper enjoys the repuf tation that it does. Another member of the stalll who gets more grief than praise is Ben Smith, business manager. Twenty other experienced news-hawks malce up the re-st of the staff. Last but not least. the steadying influence is furnished by lvliss Lois Hyde. The Blazers' capable and efficient faculty adviser. Record of 1938 Sept. 6 This early morning bade adieu in bed to happy vacation time. Up. and malae myself as fine as l could, with polished shoe and bright neclctie. So to schoole and home, troubled much ot rigours to come, excited ol' class schedule, and much spent of money. Sept. 16 Great joy we have had this weeli. Dec. 14 I to the auditorium, and hear much good ol college annual and recom- mending purchase ot same. So I into the bargain. for which I do praise myself hereafter. Dec. 51 The truth is. l do indulge myself a little the more in pleasure, l attend- ing till late houre the Nexv Yearls Eve Ball. And so after prayers soberly to bed. Ian. 15 This day was reclioned by all students the most harrowing thus far. exammes having arrived. Page Fifty-six Winter Meditation, nd o To Record of 1939 The official proclamation of roll of honor strongly attests the leadership ol Paul Boclcrath and Evelyn Cutler, and indeed their acliievernent does give good example to all.
