P - 'L .- ,:b---Q- ,, GIRLS' ATHLETICS TENNIS OE the 67 entries in the inter-class tennis tournament held this year, the winners were: June Bolstad, freshmang Louise Carlson, sophomoreg Alice Heath, junior, and Nlargaret Graham, senior. Alice lrleath, '51, was school tennis cham- pion for the year 1929. HOCKEY About 75 girls answered the cill for hockey in the fall of 'Z9. The Jefferson Street playground was in line shape and practice was lielzl twice a weelc for a month. Then the tournament strirtecl.. but, alms, clue to the early snow and rain the inter-class tournament lni to be called og. BASKETBALL The girls' inter-class basketball tournament was held this year in the Jewish synagogue. The Seniors won first place, the Freshmen second, the Sophomores third, and the Juniors fourth. Teams were composed as follows: Freshmen, J. Carlin, Capt. A. Killeen, R. Adams, Bolstad, F. Nadelhoffer, N. Arnold, J. I-Iuey, and D. Voss, Sophomores, L. Carlson, C. Schwartz, L. Marwick, C. I-luey, D. Mortvedt, G. Kaspar, A. Levin, and E. Hunt, Juniors, C. Vruels, Capt. D. I-Iaslett, A. Heath, E. lVlcCambriclge, V. Anderson, and G. Holinang and Seniors, L. Kemp, B. Wells, M. Vercellotti, E. Scotland, Argodale, E. Brintz, G. Kristal, and Capt. B. Groth. GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION lContinuedj The G.A.A. has many social functions as well as athletic activities. An afternoon party to welcome the new freshmen was given early in the fall. The annual dance given on the night of January the tenth was a Snowball Frolicn and proved to be one of the most enjoyable affairs of the season. A banquet at the Chamber of Commerce on May 19th served as a fitting occasion for the awarding of the yearls emblems. The end of school does not mean the end of good times for G.A.A. mem- bers. A G.A.A. Leadership Campn at Bowen Country Club near Waukegan is open for a week in June to those selected by the Girls' Physical Education De- partment. There is competition between schools as well as individual campers in the many activities offered. She was captain of the 19.29 All-Star Basketball Team and of the ,luni-xr Team, JANE CARLIX Jane is one of our freshmen who IS making an early name for herself in all athletic competition. She was captain of the Freshman Bask- etball Team this year. BETTY GROTH Played an important part as guard on the Senior Team.
