This group continued to sponsor the swimming parties at Lockport Pool which afforded so much pleasure to the students. They also took charge of monthly skating parties, camping trips, and offered Red Cross courses in swimming and life saving. Father Emile was the capable moderator of the scouts again this year. Under the capable direction of Mr. Robert McNulty the Band has earned the praises of everyone who has heard it. With a large repertoire of newly added selections it hopes to attain even greater heights next year. The band mem- bers should be complimented for their excellent performances both on the foot- ball field and the basketball court. It must also be said that whenever entertainment was needed at an assembly or at some other important occasion the band members were always willing to do more than their share. The Spring Concert and Diocesan Musical Festival were occasions when the band displayed exceptional talent. The hard work put forth by its members enabled the band to attain a Supe- rior rating when it appeared in state competition. WM' This year the Joliet Catholirc High golf squad achieved even greater recognition than they acquired last year, when they finished fourteenth in the state, by tak- ing the Illinois District Golf Tournament and setting a new course record of 290. In the state finals they were nosed out by two strokes and had to settle for a second place tie. Only two seniors were with the team: Ray Orenic and Bill Krall. Returning next year will be juniors, this year's state finalists: Bud Plunge, Steve Rickelman, Jack Thorington, Bob Korst, Tom Klett, and Gerald Spesia. The team also won the triangular in- tra-city match, involving Joliet Town- ship, Lockport and the Hill. Bud Plunge was medalist with a seventy-two and added another trophy to the Joliet Golf Squad. Having only been organized last year. the team has not had enough time to fully develop its potentials.
