Our High School days did start. we were just as Green as we could be, Our hopes were low cause we weren't smart Our Sophmore year it lent real good, really liked our school. always done just what we should, followed every rule. Juniors we were very busy, With our studies, banquet, and all We looked forward to being Seniors, But we had to wait until fall. Our Senior year was finally here, We found some new adventure Our Graduation was now very near, And soon to the world we all shall venture. In Activities we all took part, In music, sports, and speech. We'd always finish what we'd start, For highest honors we would reach Our teachers they were really great As they helped us through the years. They said our class was all fire And for life we had no fears. With underclassmen we had fun, They made our schooling bright and now our fun will all be gone, As they go out of sight. Now someday if your looking, For the class of '56' Remember first to look on top, Cause they won't be in the sticks t rat David Anderson Gary Hedlang Gene Nelson Beth Evans Barbara Schott Donna Brunsvold Marian Dahlby STAN MILLING CO Lake H1113 THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY VETERANS OIL C0 Lake Hills, In ' ch Q I I. Ig I I I , O We We We As V 0 99 O ASS PROPIIECY Time has passed us by, as it is now 1976, the two hundredth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Leslie Evans, 'the brain' of the Joice Class of 1956, is now head of the LesGuardia Aviation Service in New York City Leslie seemed to be interested in what his Joice classmates were doing Leslie, being his own boss, took a plane and was destined to find out where each one was and what they were doing It was the news commentator, the night before, that started Leslie to think about his Joice Classmates Native Dancer, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, had been saved by James Aasland, a prominent New York Veteranarian Leslie remembered that Jim had always talked about being a vet Leslie decided to fly out to Louisville and see how Jim and Native Dancer were getting along Leslie found Jim just getting ready to come back to New York on the Atomic Rocket, but after some discussion persuaded him to fly back to New York with him Jim told Leslie that he still considered women a lot of bother and was still a bachelor Through their conversation on the plane, Leslie found that Jim certainly was no mamma's boy as he told about his experiences at the Stork Club and the Latin Quarter After landing in New York, Leslie and Jim decided to do the town and visit the favorite spots Their first stop was the magnificient Latin quarter where the show had the world's greatest lady drummer 'Lizzy the Dizzy Drummer W It wasn't long until Leslie and Jim realized that the drummer was their old girl friend, Beth Evans After the show, Les and Jim went backstage and had a long talk with Beth She told them that in old friend of their's was also in New York working ln the Memorial Hospital, Barb ara Schott Leslie and Jim being old adm1rer's of B8Pb'S ability in Physics hurried right over to the hospital to see her Barbara said that she had always wanted to b a nurse and now had succeeded After discussing days in Joice, Leslie sensed that Barb and Jim wanted to be left alone so Leslie returned to his home Leslie continued to reminice and decided to look up the rest of his old school mates He learned that David Anderson had become a pilot in the Air Force Seeking further information, he also learned that David was stationed in Hawaii Leslle flew to Hawaii and found David, who was very glad to see him David said he had settled dow in Hawaii since he was making a career out of the Air Force and had bought him self a mansion on the shore line, a beautiful home Leslie was really impressed with his hobbies, raising horses and cats David told Leslie that Donna Brunsvold was a first hand secretary at the base Leslie realized that Donna had always wanted to be in the Armed Forces and had also liked secretarial work Leslie couldn't go hole without saying hello to Donna, so he looked h r up, and found out that she had married a young pilot and had joined the waf's so that she hoping to get some work done While at work, Leslie read in the morning paper that Joe Malloy, the terror of all racing, had again entered the Indianapolis races Leslie ju t had to see Joe so he took off for Indianapolis He found Joe and had a good visit He learned from Joe that the way that they drove during high school days had a lot to do with the way in which he was winning races Leslie could readily remember that he had had some narrow escapes with Joe in high school Instead of returning home, Leslie decided to stay for the races, and who do you think that he sat down by9 No one else but Marian Dahl by Hb learned that Marian had married John Molsberry and settled down to chicken farming in Plymouth Marian dldnlt seem very happy and it was then that Leslie decided that he should have married her like he had planned He felt he could have made her much happier On his way back from Indiana Leslie decided to stop over at horfolk, Virginia, to see his old friend James Ste srud, who was a C P O in the Navy He found Jim re covering from the events of last night Jim said that he had been to a real good party We can all understand why Jim was in the Navy, after hearing all of the good times Mr Ennen had Instead of returning to New York, Leslie decided to go to see Clinton Terbeck, dow a family man Clinton lived in Mississippi now with his big happy family Clinton was very happy to see Les and asked him to stay for a good southern supper, consist ing of hominey and grits Back in New York, Leslie set himself behind a desk, hoping to stay there for a while, but it wasn't long until he heard of how an old friend wanted to meet him for iinner at a cafeteria on Sth Avenue Leslie wasn't sure if he should go or not but then decided he could take the time when he arrived, there was not just one friend but a whole family of friends It was Gary Wedlang Gary, now the coach of the famous Jlobe trotters, was in town for a few days and after hearing from Jim Stensrud that O I I l 0 I O . , I . e O O ' e could be with him. After his short stay in Hawaii, Leslie then returned to New York O e A 'a -class Prophecy continued- Leslie was looking up his old school mates, decided to look up Leslie. That was not the only surprise for Leslie either. The cafeteria that they were eating in was one of many owned by Roger l1wnod.I guess Roger had always liked the restaurant business. Back home that night, Leslie read on the front page that Gene Nelson, another friend of his, had just received an award from the Government for nis work with the F.B.I. Gene had been with the F.B.I. ever since he finished high school. Leslie was really pleased with the success of all his class mates, but of course the most successful was Roger Van Hooser. Roger was the owner and operator of one of the largest super markets in the world. It seems as though you just cou1dn't separate Jerry Kallheim, and Roger because now Jerry was the Vice-president of Roger's super markets. Leslie returned to his desk at the LesGuard1a Aviation Service, happy to find that the Joice Class of 1956 had been so successful. This operetta takes place about the year 1700 in the kitchen of the Inn of the Golden Cheese in southern Pennsylvania. At the Inn of the Golden Cheese, important guests are expected--William Penn and his party. Master Austin, owner of the inn, is a fur trader, in his absence Mistress Austin is in charge of the inn. She has gone away today, for supplies for the enter talnment of the important guests She and her husband are expected back that evening the children and the little grandmother have been left in charge, and Peggy, the old est girl, has enlisted the aid of the neighboring children in getting the inn in shining order for the expected guests A traveler stops to warn the children that unfriendly Indians are in the neigh borhood They think that the expected party want to take away their hunting grounds. The traveler advises the children to barricade the doors and not venture out Soon after he leaves, a wailing cry is heard, and Tom, much to the consternation of the others, rushes out and returns with a little lost Indian girl, Smiling Eyes. Peggys the one who feeds the child and puts her to sleep Her moccasin drops off as Peggy carries her from the room. Periwinkle, a colored boy, comes with a message from William Penn, who will be at the inn sooner than he had expected, in fact that very evening The children are much alarmed for his safety, as well as for that of their mother and father Perl winkle, swaggers about and says he isn't 'skeeredn but when the Indians come to the door and demand admittance, he quickly scrambles into the woodbox The Indians force their way in, demand food, take articles that appeal to them, and threaten to take the children away But Chief Painted Feather's glance falls on the moccasin dropped from the foot of Smiling Eyes He asks to see her, and when he finds that the children have been kind to her, he makes friends with them Mistress Austin, Master Austin, William Penn, and his party enter The Indians, at first unfriendly toward the older members of the group, are delighted when they find that william Penn wishes to buy not steal such lands as they are willing to sell The children are praised for their bravery, and there is a final chorus of love CHARACTERS PEGGY AUSTIN+ TOM AUSTIN JOEY AUSTIN JACK AUSTIN SALLY AUSTIN GRANNY AUSTIN TRAVELER ANNE JOHN SMILING EYES CHIEF PAINTED FIRST INDIAN SECOND INDIAN THIRD INDIAN FOURTH INDIAN MISTRESS AUSTIN MASTER AUSTIN WILLIAM PENN The older sister WOSEMARY SH RWOOD The older brother The younger brother Another brother The little sister The grandmother A mere passer by A neighbor girl A neighbor boy MARSHALL ARNESON STEPH N DAHLBY DENNIS BRUNSVOLD KAY JOHNSON DOROTHY SHOTT RONALD SMIDT KAREN DAHLBY DICKIE LURA Small daughter of Chief Painted Feather VALERIE ENNEN A little Negro boy DENNIS BILYEU .ATH R An unfriendly Indian Chief LYNN SCHMIDT ROGER BAKKEN JOHN BANG DEAN LOLAND DENNIS LOLAND Owner of the Inn ARDYTHE FURNESS Owner of the Inn JOHN ELWOOD The honored guest DENNIS AASLAND NEI CHBOR C HILDREN MaraDee Ashbaugh, JoAnn Bakken, Mary Reinsmoen, Diane Colby, Diana Kittleson, Marlyne Bilyeu, Mavis Schmidt, Patricia Huso, Gloria Charlson, Arlouene Olson, Sandra Larson, Kathy Dietrich, Kathleen Hawkinson, Ann Evenson, Vera Fibelstad, Janet Evans, Rose Ann Vanhooser, Linda Mcquarie, VaLo1s Bang TB S PAGE SPONSERED EY FAMERS TAVERN JOICE C0 OP CREAMERY Joice, Iowa Joioe, Iowa O O I O O I O O O , ................... ......... , 11-nggg XQZZSQ1 C1111 Sh11S 11111 111111 113111117 PERIWINKLE ............... ------- ----------- pp --- ..... ------- I EWSPAPER STAFF Seated left to right Loretta Evans, Gary Medlang, Barbara Schott, Mrs Slattum, Marilyn Lindflott, David And rson, and Vivien Aasland Standing left to rivht Connie Aoraham, Beth Evans, Ronald Bakken, Karen Dahlbv, Diane Brones, Beverly Elwood, Sharon ralloy, Robert Lura, and Stephen Dahlby Editor In 'hief Barbara Schott Assistant Editor Marilyn Lindflott Boys Sports Editors Girls Sports Editor Featur Editor News Editor Typists ff We Q lhooo Iliilill f mann annum: 'Eno David And rson Gary Medlang Loretta Evans Vivlen Aasland Gene Nelson Vivien Aasland Loretta Evans Seventh Grade Reporter Stephen Dahlby Eighth Grade Reporter Freshman Reporter Sophomore Reporter Junior Reporter Senior Reporter Report rs i al - THIS PAGE SPOVSODED BY NORTiWOOD STATE BANK NORTHWOOD IOJA f Qs:-9 Q f . gag?
