R.D.2 Blllllll Ui llllllhillll The Board of Education is composed of nine members, elected annually by the school patrons, which are scattered throughout the congregations of the Johnstown district. The board holds its meetings monthly, at which time matters are discussed pertaining to the welfare of the school, especially financial matters, in which field they have been quite suc- cessful. One of their main problems last summer was to acquire enough money to put brick on the school. They also are planning another large project for the years to come. We all want to give our prayerful and also financial attention to the future project. We surely appreciate the efforts of our school board in keeping J. M. S. functioning effec- tively. Without their helpful counsel our school could not succeed. yt! at J . Bittner Tire Service Phone Boswell 9321 Jennerstown, Pa rf Y f 'YT I PIII lIIPAl'S MESSAGE Your claw represents the eighth that has stepped out of the halls of your alma mater. I have watched each of you grow up. I remember you as fourth graders. You looked promising then and I am more than pleased with you now. There is something about you that tells me that you have great possibilities, each one of you, for real service, and the years since you were in fourth grade have added to your poise and dignity and a quiet Christian attitude that befits any one who is called of God. I am watching you yet. I am watching to see what choices you make in life -- whom you marry, what your vocation will be, how much interest you will continue to show in your school, how much of your life will be turned over to God for His service. 1 hope I shall not be disappointed in any way with any one of you. I am going to pray for you. As we look out on the world of 1953 -- such a different world than the world of yesterday -- we wonder what the future holds, with the many pending ills of society. War stares us in the face, labor disputes, in- flation, crime, godlessness. just what the circumstances may be that will play on your lives to aid or hinder your possible achievements, we do not know. Yet whether your future is marked with fear and uncertainty, with adversity, distress, persecution, and even death, or whether it shall be a future of unhindered successes, matters not too much. It will not matter so much what you DID when the story of your life is finished, but what you WERE. I hope you can do things too, but with the training you have received from your home and from your school and church, I will be very much disappointed if you have not achieved an enviable char- acter that will be a blessing to mankind and to God. If the gracious virtues of love, and faith, and truth abound in you as I have reason to believe they will, then your life will be a worthy tribute to all who have had a part in garnishing your soul and life. Bauer, Advisor, Bob Thomas As has been suggested by the name, the Religious Life Committee is to help build up the spiritual life of the school. Since Brother Shetler and Brother Baur take turns having the de- votional periods Monday through Thursday, it is our duty to prepare a program for the Friday morning devotional period, We are also in charge of Choosing the choristers for the whole week. For our Friday morning devotional period we usually have a program by the students. lf there is a visiting minister in the community we invite him to come and conduct the morning devotions. For a variation we sometimes spend our time singing religious hymns or having a Bible Quiz. We are in charge of the school Prayer Meeting, held each Wednesday at noon, We tried to put up some mottos in the high school room and library, Our morning devotional periods help each one of us remain nearer our Saviour during the day, and help us think on things above.
