Soclal Aetlvltles 'Gilman 4 lrst w et FI n ict is N 4 ond row I orhu I hr B iowxltex f Soc: ll letivities have 1n importmt place in school life 'lt ohnstown Nlennomte School leveryone looks back with pleas 1nt memories to the soclals which we have hxd The student social committee plans these mrious 1ctivit1es On September the twelfth we hld a soeiil 1t the school playground brides t Xtter plxymg 1 number of group glmes we ro1sted wicners lround the c1mphre with Cheerios to top it off Some h1d the privilege of taking their hrst air pl1ne ride on 1 bolrd XXLIYHC Lehman 1nd Leon Hostetler will especi1lly remem ber the socml by the bumps on their fore he1ds the following weeks On 1 Friday 1fternoon in October, the high school st1rted out over dusty country I'0lllS No one except the soci1l committee knew where we were going md everyone w IS lost till we got to Lawrence Speigle s mount1m tlrm It was 1 r1ther hard climb to the top ofthe mount1m but every one enjoy ed it Signs were posted along the w 1x to make it interesting X good grape une swing which the boys m1de good use ot w 15 found ne1r the top ot the climb By following 1 btilltlful creek through evergreens, we made our way back to the cars Xbout five o clock the cars packed with students went to John Lehman s grove where supper was served and games were played Stories were told around the exmphre closing with a pr1yer meeting On H1llow een evening, the high school tr utor 1nd w 1gon lt turned out to be a runy ex enmg but this did not stop the fun Riding under 1 c1nv1s part of the way was 1 noxelty To our surprise, we stopped at NOFIUTH Hostetler s for refreshments On Nlonday evening, December 23 the high school went to the county jail and county home to sing carols for the people Street c lroling w 1s done on our way home from Somerset Xn intorm1l sledding p1rty w is held for the high school 1nd the seventh 1nd eighth gr ldes Fifth sixth, sex enth, and eighth grades spent 1n enjoyable evening together Thus social functions do play an impor t1nt p1rt in building up wholesome social interests of our school BFRX ARD Snow xLTER I ' . 0 .L I' 1 nf I ' i 'Pa it , ' I Q 4 F' ,' ro '-I f to 'ght-N.
