'Dedication We dedicate the 1981-82 Baronet to Mrs. VanDen- burgh of the English department and Mr. D'Amore of the guidance department. Mrs. VanDenburgh has been a part of the Baronet since her arrival at J.H.S.. and she has considerably helped the classes at J.H.S. as well. Mr. D Amore is a new arrival at J.H.S. this year and has already become totally involved in our school. Thank you Mrs. VanDenburgh and Mr. D Amore for your dedication to J.H.S. and spirit necessary to promote the future of J.H.S. students. The dream begins most of the time with a teacher who believes in you. who tugs and pushes and leads you on to the next plateau, sometimes even poking you with a sharp stick called truth.” Dan Rather. The Camera Never Blinks” Celebration Of One Hundred fears Of Tradition Johnstown High School celebrated its 100th anniversary during the '80- '81 school year, culminated on May 16. 1981. Lori MacVean was student chairman and Mr. John Subik acted as general chairman. Mr. Sam Alpert coordinat- ed the parade. Mrs. Eleanor Reed and Mr. Ronald Custer were advisors to the 100th class, the class of 1981. We gratefully acknowledge the help of the Johnstown Histori- cal Society, many city merchants, and countless alumni. Gifts to the school include a tree, bench, a clock, banner, and a pen-ink sketch. The hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the past students of J.H.S. have led to the bigger and better world of today. The 100 years' celebration reminds us that tomorrow is the dream yet to come. 7 i l' t. -ViVTT wmm Another op 'nin. another show In Philly. Boston, or Baltimo'e. A chance for stage folks to say Hello . Another op'nin. another show. Another job that you hope at last. Will make your future forget your past. Another pain where the ulsers grow. Another op 'nin of another show. Four weeks you rehearse and rehearse. Three weeks and it couldn't be worse. One week will it ever be right. Then out of the hat it's that big first night. The overture is about to start. You cross your fingers and hold your heart. It's curtain time and away we go. Another op nin of another show. Listen to the exhortation of the Dawn! Look to this day! For it is Life, the very Life of Life. In its brief course lie all the verities and realities of our existence: The bliss of growth. The glory of action. The splendor of beauty. For yesterday is but a dream. And tomorrow is only a vision: But today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness. And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Dale got off to an early start. 51 For several years, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services has prepared many students for careers in the working world. Through the program, students can explore an occupation that interests them to see if it will suit them later in their lives. Here youths can learn a variety of skilled trades, including cosmetology, auto mechanics, and graphics, to name a few. BOCES also offers a very popular practical nursing program, which is attended by adults as well as high-schoolers. For local, on-the- job training and experience. BOCES can 7 be beat. Nov. 14. at Park Terrace Field. Our team played their hearts out to a disappointing 13-7 score. Mike Derwin. JHS punter, was named our MVP for the game. School spirit was roused beginning on Monday, the 9th.. tropical vacation day. Tuesday, students dressed in fashions of the fifties and hats, bandannas and fancy feet. Tuesday evening the Homecoming Dance rocked to the music of UXB. Thursday was dress-up day and bake- a-cake day. Many students dressed in high fashion. Fri- day. the 13th. students went all out in spirit with a great pep rally and purple and gold day. A bon fire sparked the evening sky. The student council did a fine job organizing Home- coming Week; the cheerleaders, athletes, and students all carried out our fine school tradition with spirit. Meld Up dor School Spirit.
