All hail to the Johnstown High, With her banner of purple and gold. As long as that banner shall fly. Our hearts shall be wrapped in its folds. Good comrades we e’er shall remain Prepared to protect her from all peril. To keep from her memory all stain Hereby we pledge devotion to The Johnstown High School. When school days have come to an end. And at last we must bid you good-bye. Still, still our best efforts we’ll lend To keep that bright banner high. Though dishonor and shame may be a rife. They’ve no power over loyalty’s bright rule. And through every storm and every strife Shall shine for aye, the banner gay of Johnstown High School. Then here’s to the Johnstown High May she ever in dignity stand. Her students, as in years gone by United in heart and hand. May her halls ever ring to the tread Of defenders — as gallant and as bold As those in the days that now have sped. Who were an honor to the purple and the gold. 4 Centennial Class Outdoors Free At Last Dreams, 1980 On June 7, 1980 the annual Ju- nior Senior Prom was held at F.M.C.C. The theme was Dreams which was portrayed by the pastel colored rainbow. The couples danced endlessly into the night to music by the Smith Brothers. Like glimses of forgotten dreams ... by Tennyson She did but dream of heaven and she was there ... by Dryden Free Time. . The typical Johnstown student has a variety of activities to keep him or her involved. A few of these activities include intra- mural and inter-scholastic sports, dramatic and musical productions, publications clubs and just getting together with friends for lunch and a good time. The Class of 1981 is the hundreth class to graduate from Johnstown. We, the staff of the 1981 Baronet, are dedicating this edition the past graduates of Johnstown. They people who set the standards, and the century of tradition that we, the of Johnstown, have come to honor . They are the people to whom so very much. A hundred years have since gone by, and now we’re giving it a try. To make our class the best by far, and prove how good we really are. Although there’s some, who don’t s to care, deep in their hearts, the feeling’s To know that now, and it’d begi We are the class of '81. By Mary Burns Looking Back Over The Past WO Years Who They sung, they were the 18 Officers: J. Hughston-Treas.. L. Allen-Sec.. E. Reed-Adv. Annette Ackerknecht Karen Acquilla Maryerin Agard Lynn Allen This year’s senior class will be Johnstown High School's 100th class to graduate. Over the past four years, we have accomplished a great deal. Most of our fund-raising efforts were directed to- ward the presentation of the Junior-Senior Prom. Our fund-raisers have included bake sales, dances, swim-a-thons, the basketball program in our sopho- more year, and the football concession stand this year. At the time of this printing, we are looking forward to a class trip which will make all of our hard work well worth the effort. Before we graduate, the sen- ior class banquet will tie our year together and fire us up for our high school graduation. At the ban- quet, other senior superlatives will be awarded. Our commencement exercises will remind us that we are “The Centennial Class” as we look at the spe- cially designed diploma covers and the 100 bal- loons flying overhead. R. Custer Adv.. S. We have raised money by having bake sales, the school play concession stand, the basketball concession stand, and by selling basketball programs. Some things were new, as the golf team found themselves playing in the fall in- stead of the spring. Also, our new oppo- nents proved to be quite competitive in every sport. Not only did we have the opportunity to meet many new competitors but also to see a few new coaches in action, such as Mr. Clawson in football. Mr. Under- wood in cross cSbntry, and Mr. Wiltey in field hockey. All of these factors made the fall sports season an interesting one for the Sir Bills. . 132 Chris Fox and Marc Lord take down an Albany Academy player. Eric and Mike practice on the green. A highlight had to be the girls’ and boys' wins over Gloversville in basketball. It's al- ways satisfying to beat your arch-rival. The ski team was also fortunate enough to have snow this year; they skied their way to the sectionals. Swim team and the matmen also had competitors sent to sectionals. Overall, it was a good season in a new league for JHS. Jim Benton grapples for a hold. Varsity Winter sea ted‘Co. Cap. J. Cieply. Co. Cap. R aneri Row 2: S. Em pie, T. Hyney, B. Hyney, L. It was fun joining the swim team, the international club, and other school activities. I had the chance to meet some nice people and to make some excellent friendships. Thanks to all of them and their patience, especially in the beginning. I learned to say more than a simple, “Hello”. Without these people and friends, this experience wouldn’t be as special as it is to me. We had good times together. Thank-you, JHS, for this great year. Sincerely, Daniel Gallardo Row 1: Pres.-S. In addition to the acting de- buts. it was also the onset of “singing careers” for some. Joe Piazza. Karyn Shipley, Sue Pollack, and Mark Samperi added another dimension to the al- ready well-balanced comedy through their singing. The cast was assisted by an ever ready sound crew (It’s just a little work on the subway!): Scott Euter- marks, and Eric Van Hoesen whose explosions shook the audience. Lighting and props, headed by Chris Miller and Melissa Gould added the neces- sary realistic touches to the performance, (a few “admirable” qualities in costumes too). 162 “Here’s to us and Burgundy. The ambi- tious production was directed by Helen Rus- sell. accompanied by Steve Culhane’s pit band and Robert Russell's sets. It all finally ran smoothly for opening night after months of late rehearsals, dancing lessons, gymnas- tics practices, hammering, painting, crawl- ing up to the catwalk, sewing, fighting with the light circuits, finding props, and swallow- ing lemon juice! But after the itchy make-up and costumes came off, it was somehow too quiet, especially those graduating. There are always tears as well as relief when the last curtain closes.
