A teacher must challenge, stimulate, and broaden a student during his care and Mr. Pollak, commonly known as the Fox or Panda , more than fills this duty. A sly FOX22 Mr. Pollak talks over game strategy with the freshmen at halftime. wr .Mt i M rfflwfm Along with his job of coaching the freshman football team the Fox can be found playing football on Sunday afternoons, and playing bas- ketball on Thursday nights at the His understanding and school spirit have made Mr. Pollak a loyal friend to students of all ages, and so to show our loyalty and respect, we, the Baronet Staff, dedicate the 1968 Baronet to, M14 William Pollak A thing of beauty! l Amdemif Dqba afimenfy English The ultimate goal of English classes at johns- town High is to prepare the student for college and the challenges which he will face in the future. The English language is a complex and necessary tool for progress in any field. Through four years of English, the arts of oral and writ- ten communication are taught to all grades with the intention that through these abilities good relations may be established among our people. The English department is headed by Mrs. Lorence Whose task is to help acquaint students with the many facets of the English language. ili ' T fl., 1 ,... . L? . . , ggr ...,, T ggy: T . The purpose of the Social Studies De- partment is to further that knowledge and under- standing by offering courses which will relate the history and problems of today to those of yesterday and thus show that in solving these problems man can gain a whole new outlook by studying man's failures and achievements. mfg ZV- p . -5 ',--ff W -0 Hg? kr , .t1- I :WI t t t tt- lt, I J by j Sue Ortell consults the world atlas in the library. Foreign Lamgzmgaf The increasing emphasis being placed on for- eign languages can clearly be seen at j.H.S. Four year sequences are offered in French, Latin, and for the first time German. We're graduating from with many memories and the special distinction of being the first class to have had all four years in the new building. We've come a long way since that day four years ago when we entered high school as scared freshmen. We had a wonderful prom in 1967, a successful senior play in 1968, and brought many honors to J.H.S. in scholastics, sports, and community service. Our senior year was our busiest and most unforgettable with college interviews, fund raising events, College Boards, settings for senior pictures, fittings for caps and gowns and of course homework! I Then all too soon, there was the senior banquet, the ball, and the culmination, of twelve years of study, commencement. Claw Of '68 50 I, O u 49 Two roads diverged in ez yellow weed, John W. The money we raised.by selling programs at basketball games and at a very successful dance made our marvelous prom in the school gym possible. As juniors, we took an active part in the life of Johnstown High School. There were juniors everywhere . . . Juniors in varsity sports, student council . . . Junior cheerleaders, band members, majorettes, in chorus, in the Debate Club, and on the Junior Red Cross. As our junior year draws to a close, we are looking forward to our last exciting year at J.H.S., and we wish to give special thanks to Mrs. Painter, our class advisor, for being so helpful to our class, in all its functions. The cheerleaders had to cheer in 700 heat, in rain, in snow, in mud and cold, but they cheered the team on. To boost team spirit, they held pep rallies before some of the games. They carried on the tradition of going to church and breakfast be- fore each game with the team. The climax of the season was, of course, the annual Johnstown- Gloversville skit. This humorous program helped in preparing j.H.S. students for the biggest game of the year. 'F RM . E . Q Row 1: Vic Brumaghim, Jack Harding, Bill Pulver, Kurt Karpoy. An average team at the beginning of the season, the squad developed into a league and Section 2 title contender. The experienced nucleus of Co-captains Fred Putman and Greg Baker, jeff Preston, Torn Callery, and Chuck Dwyer was joined by first-year man Tom Chamberlain to give fine representation this fall. The team won all of its dual league meets quite handily, and won the Western Conference meet for the league championship. Not having one of their good runs, j.H.S. finished second to Cobleskill in the Section 2 meet. In other meetings with this team during the season, Johnstown had been victorious by a few points. A difference of six points sent Cobleskill to the State meet. No other Class B teams in Section 2 gave our squad much competition and many Class A teams fell victim to them. An outstanding performance was given this season by Co-captain Greg Baker. He became the first j.H.S. runner to win the Section 2, Class B , individual title. He was also top runner in the Western Conference. He broke the J.H.S. records on all courses on which he competed.
