foreword We, the Annual Staff, are proud to pre- sent to you our 1959 BARONET. This book has caught glimpses here and there, so that in years to come the activities of this school year at Johnstown High School will not be dimmed and will not fade from memory. In later years, while turning these pages, if you should recall the many smiles, sor- rows, and dreams of '59, we shall be con- tent, knowing that we have done the thing we were called upon to do. ..tofi ?: ‘v. V ’ •'• . ' • WE NEED LEADERS The world has always needed both leaders and followers, but good leaders are always in the greatest demand. Each member of the graduating class has the ability of becoming a leader in community affairs, in his class in college, or in business. It is unfortunate that so many persons do not take advantage of their opportunities. What does a leader do? He devotes himself to some worthy cause, and seeks to bring to his followers the warmth and glow of a dream of an improved school or community. How does he do it? By devotion to an ideal, .and by clear plan- ning of the various steps necessary to accomplish a worthy goal. The first test of a leader is: Can I put the common good above my own interests? If the members of the graduating class can pass this first test of leadership, they are well on the road to true leader- ship in our society. t ' ' • • v -.tat? Eugene F. Conant Superintendent of Schools § . • '
