Any student of literature is familiar with these lines from Henley's Invictus Any Catholic student knows the limitations which must be put on the meaning of those lines. No one can save himself without the grace of God, for without Me, you can do nothing g yet. on the other hand, God will not save you without yourself. Just how the grace of God and the free will of man are reconciled is a problem which has puzzled philosophers from the time of St. Augustine to the present. Practically speaking, however, one should remember the counsel of St. Francis deSales: I must work as though everything depends upon meg I must pray as though everything depends upon God. Practically, then, understood in the proper sense, you are the master of your fateg you are the captain of your soul. God desires the salvation of every person: He gives that grace which is sufficient for salvation. Yet, in His Providence, He has left every human being free to HMM Zuerencl oankrcf Qwinarler rincipaz Cairn! Cjafltogc accept or reject that grace which would secure salva- tion. In a very real sense, then, whether or not you will attain your eternal end depends in very great measure on YOU. One of the greatest graces given to you thus far is the opportunity for a Catholic education. Your years in the Catholic high school should have equipped you in such a manner that you will be able to seize each occasion to gain merit for heaven. You are the master of your fateg may you always possess the prud- ence and fortitude to act in a fashion which will se- cure your eternal reward. 'lf ,main Father Linford F. Of course, you say, you are somebody and can do many things. But you can do supernat- ural acts because you are one with God. Impossible, you say? Are you HDI a son of God and temple of the Holy Spirit? Due to these qualities in you it is pos- sible to become like Christ. Christ lives in you. He takes each act you perform, every thought you con- struct, and each word you say unto Himself. Taking these and making them His own, they become supernatural, for Christ is God-made-man. Still these things remain yours alone, because Christ does not detract. He adds by making your acts worthy of God, supernatural. Know thyself. If you do, truly, then you will be . . . one who can stand as straight as Christ. You can do all things in Him and with Him, because Y-O-U spells Cod. It is composed ol' the President, Victe-Presi- dent, Secretary, 'I'reasurer and thirty-lour llomeroom Representatives. The main purpose of the Student Council is to bring the faculty and the student body closer together. lt deals with tnatters ol' importance, and then presents its views to the Principal. ln this way, your problems and opinions have been duly ollered to the facility for consideration. The faculty then works for a solution to the problems and puts it into elfeet. 'I'he Student Council also sponsors activities which cater to the nlerryrntaking aspect ol' normal Catholic youth. Alt. ow enior pfag The long hours working on the scenery for The Robe were not in vain: Francis Pompanella, Carl Kobie, john Varmecky. and Robert Marthouse produced a praiseworthy job. Penetrating the dusky twilight of afternoon, the drama of The First Good Friday evolves before your eyes. This is not the most sought after plot of that day. lt is The Robe, the morality interlude affmitive of the mantle which Christ wore to the scaffold of bereavement. Tribune Marcellus Gallio wins the robe when he tempts fortune in a game of Chance with Paulus. Marcellus' booty sows the seeds to Christianity for him and his wife, Diana. Unanimously the best presentation ever achieved by Senior Class fabric, The Robe was directed by Mr. Donald Sabo. Sister M. jeremy, producer, with the skillful assistance of the stagecrew, constructed the settings. The cast embodied 31 members, as follows: Steph- anos, Richard Dowdellg Sarah, Joan Decker: Melas, Charles Lucasg Demetrius, XVilliam Altg Marcellus Gallio, David Kessler, Centurion Paulus, Robert Sutt- millerg Pontius Pilate, Francis Korchnakg Captain Fulvius, Henry NVolfhopeg Lucia Callio, Bonnie Clay- combg Diana Callus, Betty Lou Wissinger: Helen, Frances Bartkog Cornelia Gallio, Shirley Bischofg Sen- ator Gallio, James Antoninig Phoebe Eupolis, Mary Kaye Cowan: Theodosia liupolis, lean Probstg Quin- tus Lucian, lVilliam McGovern: Rhoda, Patricia Dai- leyg Simon Peter, James Trexlerg Tiberius, -Iohn Boyle: Caligula, Daniel Spodienok: Sarpedona, San- dra Koplerg Salome, Geraldine Perry. 6 N , nf., Ihv hun' LHIIJKKIIH' l1.ll1l'lI1L1 gula ll 1 11111 I . l'crrx. ll.
