U53 For all of us in the past. now, and even those of us yet unborn, the day had come at last, ever memorable among men-the time of the Incarnation. At this moment, the shadow of the ever-lasting decree stole upon Mary. In the words of Father Faber: It was an awful moment, fully in Mary's power to refuse. How the angels must have hung on that moment! Then-3Iary's Fiat : thus had the Eternal Word begun His created life on earth. This was Mary's fulfillment of God's plan for her-this Annunciation-her vocation in life, to bring' the redemptive Christ, Incarnate God, into the lives of men. So, too, our religious, who, like Mary, received their vocation-another Annunciation -spend their energies and lives bringing' t'hrist into the lives of His youths, who so desperately have need of Him. But they. too, as Mary. can only bring Christ to their students and lay Him at their feet. As He was once laid by His mother in Betl1lehem's manger, a foodbox, symbolic of the Holy Eucharist, so He is daily laid upon the altar table in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is up to the student, as it is up to all men, to come as the shepherds or the Wise Men, following the Star of Faith, and falling' down, adore and partake of this Incarnate God. XX X dbg f - . It is this spirit of self sacrifice which has united the students of Catholic High with the faculty in a bond of under- standing seldom equalled and never surpassed. Order is the first rule of heaven, could well be the motto of Miss Will, our school secretary. Hers is thc problem of arranging multitudinous records into an orderly file. A I ' 13 When the time was chosen for the Son of God to fulfill His mission on earth, it was Mary who became His first created home. Then from a moonlit slope without and a darkened cave within, the doors of Bethlehem's stable opened and Mary presented her Son as soundless thunder to a waiting, yet heedless world. During the past four years, the walls of Catholic High have housed these students, graduates of 1955. It is now God's chosen time that they begin their mission in life. As you once presented your Son, O Mary, to a waiting world, open wide the doors of Catholic High and present these your children also, to their world, still heedless, yet longing for the good they can accomplish for the Church and for the souls they are bound to save. if tiki Calf' SQ .C,. A kindly senior showed me the office and furnishings. CI wonder if Father ever used that stick? 'I 'YJ After much walking, I discovered I wasn't going anywhere. I was lost! Once more I encountered some friendly seniors, who helped me stay lost. I was beginning to like high school, but then they handed out books. I used to think I was pretty brainy! 'till they handed me my report cardg thought my eyes were going bad because I kept seeing red. Those assemblies! Everybody, that is the seniors, juniors and sophomores really enjoy them. I soon found out that every assembly ended the same way: the principal would say: Seniors leave first, then the Juniors and Sophomores. Freshmen, TAKE DOWN THE CHAIRS. June came despite the seniors' efforts to stop the year's progress. I was no longer a freshman! Y I New doors and opportunities were opened to me. Ah, you lowly freshman, wait 'till next year! Z! It meant the saving from embarrassment of a newly married couple, whose feast was a finely prepared and gay activity. An unexpected crowd appeared and it became evident there was a noticeable lack of wine. Not like Mary to allow disappointment or sorrow to befall anyone if she could do something about it, she said, They have no wine. That was all that Son needed! His whole plan was changed because His mother wanted to give a little happiness to a young married couple. The best wine was then served, and none but a chosen few knew its Source. There are many gay feasts and activities in our social life here at Catholic Hi and in the days to come. It is Marylikeness that should shadow our presence at them. Yet in Him, not in her, should be our eventual rest: the magnificence of Mary is but our road, our instrument, our means. The water of selfishness and thoughtlessness can always be turned into the wine of kindness and consideration: even though only a few, if any, may know its source. May this life of self-forgetfulness daily become the pattern for these young souls of Christ's. 5 l v! .J gr 1 I I I 2 ,Y r 4' ' f 4, ,.. .42 F! v f L V ,.v . . rn' R STUDE T COUNCIL THE STUDENT COUNCIL This year the Student Council has in its rank a type of student who puts his school above his own personal desires as shown in the council's fine record. Ronald Benson, president, lectures Ronald Kohler on the importance of the students' personal appear- ance while Roberta Balazik outlines his important points, and Paul Solomon, vice-president, stands by to add his approval or disapproval of Mr. Ben- son's speech. Father proved to be not only a great spiritual guide, but also a friend to all of us. His unique manner of dealing with both spiritual and material happenings influenced and inspired many to a sincere preparation for the years which lie ahead. Holy NVeek has a double significance to seniors, It is not only the time we Catholics commemorate the Passion and Death of Christ, but also these days of Holy Week are set aside for our annual retreat. For three days the seniors set aside their school work to concentrate more upon spiritual matters, and to seriously prepare for the life that lies ahead of them. 'W'1 'TF-f til' wr 'Q li?
