PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE Americans have a world-wide reputation for generosity. In particular, American youth is generous. Even more especially are Catholic young people known for gen- erosity. And this is as it should beg for the Catholic boy and girl have the example of their Creator, their Redeemer, their Model, Christ Jesus, our Lord, Who poured Himself out, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the Cross. We speak now, of course, not of gen- erosity with money or other material goods, but of that type of unselfnshness, or better, selflessness, which brought our Lord to Calvary for our salvation. Nor was even that enough. For Christ willed that His Sacrifice should be renewed as often as His priests of the New Law ascend the altar and pronounce the sacred words of Consecration over bread and wine. Christ's sacrifice can also go on in the life of every real Catholicg in fact, it must go on, for He said, If any man will be My disciple, let him take up his cross daily and come after Me. In other words, the true Catholic lives in union with the Sacrifice of Christ. Sacrifice is an unpleasant word, but only because people generally have a poor understanding of both its meaning and its motive. To sacrifice means to make holyg and the motive for it is Christ's motive- love: love of God and love of neighbor. Leaving Catholic High School, then, you should make this one resolution: to make your every action holy in union with the Mass of Christ, keeping always in mind that if you suffer together with Christ, you shall also rise gloriously with Him.
