Wilbur Holland University of Georgia, Jacksonville State University, B.S.A. , B.S. , Dept. Head Science 'DefranttHent The Science Department had several major transformations. By far the most spectacular change was the Science Commons, which was equipped with the latest science equipment. Em- phasis this year, was placed on individual achievement, and small and large group instruction. Students were grouped ac- cording to ability and achievement and were regrouped at any time during the school year, if their level of work indi- cated a need for regrouping. Study guides, programmed learning aids, were used by the students to follow in reaching their objectives. Live sciences, Earth sciences, and Physical sciences, were taught to each grade. We believe this year was a most re- warding one for all. Jerry Bowman Pauline Combs Jacksonville State Samford Univers- University, B.S. ity, A.B. Margaret DeBardelaben Ala. College, B.S. Johnson Vanderbilt Uni- versity, B.A. Dept. Head Scci %C Studies 'DefianttKent History, as well as history-in-the-making, came alive for YOU! The emphasis you --was the key to our social stud- ies program. By using individual material, our teachers were striving to guage the study so that it was meaningful to each student. To help in achieving this, study guides, visual aids, and var- ied enrichment assignments were provided. The commons was a new area to us this year, but many aspects of it were familiar. In one large room we had space for several classes to come together to see a film or hear a lecture that might be presented to a number of students at one time. We hope that each student progressed and that the social studies program had a meaningful experience for each of you this year.
