Believe in Knowledge: in which we train our minds and hands to work diligently and skillfully. Believe in Honesty and Truthfulness: in which we can win the respect and confidence of our fellow students and teachers. Believe in a Sound Mind and Body: in which a spirit is contained that is not afraid combined with the gift of true sports- manship. Believe in Obedience to Laws: in which the rights of all of us are protected. Believe in the Human Touch: in which we cultivate the feelings of sympathy, helpfulness, and happiness toward our fellow students and teachers. Believe in Our Country: in which is found a land of freedom and which is our own home. We can best serve that country by âdoing justly, with loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God. Because Johnston Junior High School boys and girls believe these things they believe in Johnston and love it. IN MEMORIAM CHARLIE ANN STILL Bom â March 16, 1948 Died â February 17, 1963 She spent her life in seeking The goal she might attain; Whatever that goal was, To her it surely came. Dear girl, so many loved her. She was so like a dream. Ideal of ideals, The finest we have seen. To her loving disposition And her gracious attitude We pen this composition As a memorial of gratitude. For all the joy she brought us While she tarried in our midst. And the memories left behind Of the one we'll always miss. MAYOR CLAUDE DEAR PROUDLY PRESENTS RICH IN Heritage, Culture, Religion, Natural Resources And Enthusiastic Citizens. âHeritage Gen. JOHNSON It takes a tremendous amount of thinking and planning and organizing to keep a school the size of Johnston Junior High School running smoothly. The people you see pictured on this page do an outstanding job of administration. In spite of the fact that the enrollment of this school was over a thousand this year, the administrators have made the opportunity to become personally acquainted with a surprising number of students and to show interest in their progress. In a school the size of Johnston such a group has a tremendous opportunity and responsibility toward creating and main- taining good student-faculty relations. This year the Student Council has undertaken to accomplish this through such projects as Good Citizenship Day, morning devotionals, and an excellent monitor system, all of which demonstrate the active concern of students for their school. The club, which consists of about 150 students is under the direction and supervision of the cheerleaders and their sponsor, Mrs. Ponder. The club meets once a week and leams new' cheers and shows off its accomplishments at all the basketball games. They have helped make the 1962-63 basketball season one of the best. 30 ROBED CHOIR The Robed Choir of our school consists of about sixty members, chosen for their singing ability. Under the able direction of Professor L. P. Jackson, they give us many interesting and enjoyable programs throughout the year. Officers were elected at the beginning of the year and a sweetheartâ was chosen. We wish to extend our congratulations to the Robed Choir for their many fine performances through- out the years. 40 NINTH GRADE ENSEMBLE ROBED CHOIR OFFICERS 41 ANNUAL Mr .
