PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Dear Students, The 1957 edition of your school annual. The Bells Ring, has recorded the spirit and the action of the many pleasant and memorable events that took place at Johnston Junior High during the past year. Here is the story of the school program—your daily round of school activities—from the acedemic subjects of English, social studies, math, and science to the elective subjects of music, speech, art, sports, and others. Several members of the speech department participated in the state drama festival again this year. Everyone in speech learned more self-confidence and poise through public speaking—this is the aim of our speech department. Flowers mean love! That's a car they're in? Home The girls in home- making have been learning to sew and cook under the di- rection of Mrs. Price Industrial Mr. Lambert tries to give the boys in shop a sample of t h e many things that can be done Arts with woodcraft and carpentry. These are some of the boys hard at work on their projects. i______________________ Once again this year the art groups under the direction of Mrs. Burke have done a wonderful job of keeping our bulletin boards filled with beautiful scenes and drawings. They have put on several entertaining assembly programs which we all enjoyed, and they also decorated the building for Xmas. Red Cross Representatives These students are always doinc something to help others,- getting things tor the soldiers at the Fort fixing Christmas boxes, an many other helpful activities. Social studies is a course that al J.J.H.S. students are required to take. We are taught many things about problems in our Our science teachers give us instruction in the scientific English things that go on about us now and for the future. Here we learn how to speak, read, and write the language of our English forefathers and it often gets hard to do ALGEBRA Mrs. Self teaches us how easy it is to work problems with unknown numbers. We learn all about the Romans, their customs, and their language in Mr. Clark's classes. CREATIVE WRITING LATIN This elective course teaches us the several types of writing and the 9th grade class makes up our school paper staff. STUDY HALL In the library and cafeteria we have the big study periods where we try to do the things that the class teachers have assigned us.
