belongtngs at Camp Dodge and nn ve back tu Johnston We won the magaztne sale Ronme Fratzer was the somewhat dlsappotnted hlgh salesman smce h1s reward turned out to be a rubber Indtan lnstead of the anttctpated radtc We beat the etghth grade rn basketball but we lost tn f otball We put on a program ft r the etghth grade and they gave us a party We took a htke to see the Ptoneer Seed Corn Company We also had a Hey Bob Safety program that year The Mothers gave us a Halloween party for whtch we dressed tn castume We made the most of II too you never saw more spooky spooks or ghosty ghosts When we entered the etghth grade John Ltnder and B111 Moon Jomed us We d1dn t realtze how much nur seventh grade teachers loved us unttl we dtscovered that they had all dectded to work on us tn the etghth grade I don t know what Mr Smtth and the band would have done wtthout us elght of us grabbed lnstru ments and went to work wtth a w1ll We were 'tumxltated tn the magazme sale by the seventh grade who utsold us by a country mtle and we had to gtve them a b1g party We got back some of our self respect though when we made a name for ourselves by wtnntng the Polk County Jumor Hlgh School Basketball tournament Graduat1on from etghth grade was a btg event Now we were ready for seats tn the assembly Freshman year me were jolned by the ktds from Herrold Carroll Brown George Heckman Marvln for a whtle but the other classes tn htgh school soon brought our heads back to s1ze Our teachers that year were Mr Sloan who was also our sponsor Mrs Cassaday Mr Schuler and Mrs Berry Our sophomore year must have been quxte dull and uneventful for none of us can now recall that we dtd anythmg that year of world shakmg tmportance We dtd take 1n several new members Charlene Brafford Paul Elwell Larry Huth Barb Maher Dave McPherson and Kenneth Palmer We spent much of our J untor year looktng ahead to the t1me when we would occupy the Sentors seats nder Mrs Keeton s d1rect1on we put on the play Crazy But Cute in wluch Rtchard Hawbaker and Carol Gardner starred we had charge of the candy gum and pop conoesstons at the ball games We carefully hoarded the money we made for the year s btg event the Jumor Semor Banquet For the banquet lv chose a magtc theme and tmported an honest to goodness maglcxan to entertain us At last we are Sentors Mrs Scott wxll be our sponsor and w1ll gtve us much needed counsel. We have added a new member Joy McBr1de Somehow we aren t qulte so thrllled at the prospect of betng graduated and leavmg htgh school as we thought we would be But there are many b1g moments havtng our ptctures taken at Woltz Studtos weartng our class nngs presennng the play Fog Island fwe had a lot of fun dotng thxs and thought our acung was pretty htdl classj and workmg on the yearbook We are lookmg forward to Baccalaureate and Commencement When we are graduated we hope that xt WILL be a commencement for all of us the begmntng of our educatton not the end , x 1 v l , .
