Sixth grade--It's a bird! It's a plane! What is it?? Oh! Dorothy C. and Richard H. arriving. Sallie Stirts returned because she found life too dull at Urbandale, without us. Dick D. started Dorothy's day out right with one of his mad kisses. Our class put on a program for the P.-T.A. The boys had a stilt march and the girls jumped rope to the rhythm of the music. Our Junior high teachers were Mrs. Ballm1andMrs. Dowling. We increased our knowledge by having NSpell-downsn and Arithmetic Contests. It was in the Eighth Grade that we re-fought the Civil War--Johnstonians vs. Dogpatchers led by Norma Bianchi CRunny Meringueb. Norma clubbed an innocent Johnstonian bystander CDick D. was the guilty offenderl. But of course, the Dogpatch team won. We also won the magazine contest in Eighth Grade, and the Seventh Grade had to treat us. Ninth grade--Forced to leave our Civil War weapons behind, we gggwlgg into the assembly. We were badly in need of help so Dorothy M., Gladys B. Walter R., Jim A., and Howard S. joined our regiment. Initiation time rolled around and did we suffer! The boys had war paint on their faces, their pants rolled above their knees,tee-shirts with bow ties, plow shoes, and no socks. The girls wore high heels,anklets, old skirts,blouses, no make-up, and their hair in braids. Mr. and Mrs. Varner, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Berry, Mrs. Sproul, and Mr. Schuler were our teachers. Tenth grade--This was a pretty peaceful year for the teachers. We were all on our best behavior. Why? We don't know. After failing our mission of destroying the school last year,we decided to put it off until our Senior year. Eleventh grade--We sent for reinforcements, but all we got was Jim G.l Naturally being Juniors, we put on a Junior play called NWe Shook The Family Tree.W This big headache fell upon Mr. Howards. It made a big hit on John- ston Avenue. After the play the class decided to go to the show at Highland Park. On the way certain members of the class got a ticket for speeding. For the Junior and Senior Banquet we shed our country rags and dressed up like city-slickers. Twelfth grade--Ah! Look, kids, we made it! If you don't believe us, we'll show you the bills for our pictures and rings. We really hit the Jack- pot at Home-coming this year. Besides our Shirley Danielson being crowned Queen of festivities, Norma Bianchi was a Princess, so we were pretty proud of our girls. Then our Pep leaders being all Seniors, Norma, Ruth,and Rich, who had done us all proud, had to break in some under classmen to that job. We're almost to the end of the line. A few short weeks of classes, a class-play make the 1951 class remembered, and the formalities of gradua- tion will be upon us, all too soon. Mr. Varner who has been our true friend and guide--lo, these fgur years--will say,UThis is as far as you go. Now get out!
