Q E C sy s , .. 4 sg L T9 Mly 203 : This morning, the Des Moines Register carried the following advertise- Q ng ment:'Vielt the Golden Dragon City on the planet of Dreams which was founded f E just twenty years ago by the l9b9 Graduating Class of Johnston High School, 1 Y in Johnston, Iowa. These 22 Seniors, seeking excitement, allowed themselves j I to be shot out of a cannon to further scientific: research into the solar 1 A system. They landed on this new planet, and,having invented no way to return 1 3 to Earth at that time, they were obliged to remain there. what they have ac- 2 ,i compllshed will astouhd you. Round-trip tickets on Rocket Ship, only 37.85.' . il X It is now noon and we're boarding the Rocket Ship with some misgivings, ? 'j but we are anxious to see our old friends. In less time than it takesto ? Y wrinkle your nose, we are in the air and on our way. Swiftly our ship gains E J speed and the urge to be on solid ground grows more intense as we see in the 2 ,f distance, the planet of Dreams. As we draw nearer, we see a tremendous sign Q ? which reads: 'Golden Dragon City, Founded in 1949 by the Johnston Sen1ors.' A Q' We circle the landing field,hoping for a sign of life, and,sure enough, E g just as we land, Jim Wheeler, who gave up love in his youth to devote full Q time to his Job as Mayor in Golden Dragon City, comes up to greet us. Jim Q 5 is very distinguished looking, with his white hair and his somewhat enlarged Q C waist line. We stroll across the field to the Mayor's limousine. There we 5 Q find Beverly Betz behind the wheel. She is the Mayor's Chauffeur,and eagerly 3 Q meets each Rocket Ship,hoping to find someone who will kiss her on the other A lg cheek. Beverly drives us to the Olsasky Hotel, a tremendous structure, with T '5 hanging gardens at each floor level. Bob welcomes us, and tells us we are f K to have the finest suite in the hotel during our stay. We visit ln the lobby 5 f for a few minutes when we notice two familiar figures coming thru the door. Q E Yes, it is Lester Hesseltine and Robert Sniffer. They tell us they are both 4 E deep in politics.Less is a senator mu1Robert is the leader of the new party, 1 . 'Shiflesites,' which he organized after he ran all the Democrats out of Con- f Q grass on the planet. Across the lobby we see a big sign on a glass door. It 1 reads, 'Madam Big's Style Salon.' Robert informs us that Madam Big is none Q 2 other than Evelyn Siever, and her chief model is Delores Christensen. Confi- Q 3. dentially, we think Robert and Lester have more than a passing interest ln 1 H this Style Salon. Q 'i Jim suggests that we tour the town to see the sights of this Model City Q 5 and renew acquaintances with the townspeople. Golden Dragon City has e very 3 5 strong Fort, named Vertz after Lewis vertz who is in command here. It is 4 5 rumored that he is negotiating with the United States to remove its gold 5 Q deposits to Fort Vertz for safe-keeping. As we approach the Country Club we q 5 notice a bill board--what a surprise to read that Opal Boyer, who married a 3 E farmer, is now lecturing over the radio on the subject 'Mistakes and How to U E Correct Them.' Oh, there's Sufica Bianchi. She married her childhood sweet- f .Z heart, and is now living on a goat ranch near the city raising kids. Q f We drive down Main Street and stop at the Radio building. We hear the 5 Q familiar voice of Pete La Mar who is announcer for Station PIG. He tells us 4 2 that Marilyn Bauman has become quite a dancer. She danced before the Mayor 3 g on her fortieth birthday and was awarded a medal. Lee Baker is also on the E E stage. He portrays Joe E. Brown, and has a skit all his own. The show is a 2 I huge success. As we leave Radio Theater we run into Ted Miller who is the 5 K dance instructor at the exclusive Miller Music Club. With him, is Darrell Q Q Rltchhart who, believe it or not,teaches Agriculture and cares for sixty-one Q 2 pies. 3 E ,The sun never sets on Dream Planet.
