Luella lungs and William Bobinette. with hair well-brushed, faces shining, and 3 ' 9- dressed in their Sunday-beet, are entering the Kindergarten at Johnston. They pee about .1 Iffjffj thu in awe, fascinated by the blackhoards, little chairs. tables, and the small children. The teacher, Miss Marie leellng, makes them forget their shynees. and soon they are pl.,- f' -,H,- T ing with the others. What fun to play gaaes and sing songs! and-oh yes--no naps were ever so mch fun as these they take in the kindergarten room on little rugs placed on the tables. Once in awhile soneone falls off the table, but no serious inJury results. P - Dgye hurry by. and in no time at s.ll,Bi11 and Luella say Good-bye to the Kindergarten Q -V and go to spend a year with lies Dorothy George, the first grade teacher. Bere they take ' part in the ruysu bam--such me and new eb-nung to be a par: of at. no one seems to . mind an occasional lapse in the rhythm. - - Second grade ls destined to hold one unforgettable memory for Bill. His mother is ill 7 ' flgi' and has to be taken to the hospital. The teacher, lliee lllma leyte, 'brings Bill a fine u al: raisln pie to give to his mother. Bill takes it home, puts it carefully away. His mother e fi returns hole some two months later.B1ll hurries to get the pie from its hiding place-Alas, ,fX,.,'5- how could so many ants and bugs have found hle luscious pie in Just two months! X -Af . '71 In third grade Bill and Luella meet Juanita lvans for the first time. She promises to -Q continue through school with thu. Miss Ada laxeon oones to teach music and she agrees to etay with them also. Kiss Lucille lilllame le the regular teacher. She gives them hooks, fx! sea shells,and other trlnkets at the end of the year, and they are sorry to sae her leave. ' ' W The third grade safely hurdled, they enter fourth grade. 'hat an important feeling - l- they have, for aren't they now on second floor! But that thrill soon wears off: the year f 'ff 5 passes uneventfully and lies Agnes Iuefner, having been successful ln her efforts to in- ' crease the knowledge of her charges. sends them on to lies Idith Jasper Ulrs. Bake:-J. the 1 , fifth grads teacher. lies Jasper has eo many new ideas. She takes them to Sycamore Park If ' I where they gather brightly-colored leaves, and find a gypsy skirt-even some snakes. Dat . ..,. , , all is not laughter! One day lies Jesper catches several boys shooting paper wade. So she eahfgkfa tells the boys to make wade and more wade until they have enough to fill a quart Jar. Oh. rink their aching Jaws! ht she is a good scout and doesn't hold it against them and soon sends I them on to brighten the life of the sixth grade teacher. llrs. lellle laylor. lxaoept for some pretty good fights. eo hella sue, thq are mdel students. .1 In Junior High they are greeted by lre. Dowling and llrs. Ballou. Here, they organise 5' ,fig an hgllsh Club which proves to be a big success. Oh, who's this new girl coming in to 'I join them in the eighth grade? 8he'e short and cate with dark hair and brown eyes. Why, Jy 1t's llarJorle Brown! That brings the total cast of main characters to four: Luella, Bill, - Juanita, and Ma.r,1or1e. All of them pass the dreaded State examinations and they gain en- 1 trance to the Freshman Glass. Here, Harlan Deggett enters upon the scene. He is full of ,V pep and a welcome addition to the group.!he assembly is torn up for a week so the Freshman Q 'J Class meets in the Bone lconomics roos for serhils. This le fun, and they hope Irs. Berry, ,fl fx the Home lconomlcs instructor, doesn't mind too much. They have sany teachers now. lr. l ff! I I. f , IN Glampltt, the lxperlntemlent: llrs. Scott, the Principal: ldss hits: llrs. Derry: and Kr. Hartman. Variety is the spice of life, and there is seldom a dull moment. ln the tenth :fade thq seet Garl Dunn and persuade him to linger awhile. In the Junior Claes thq finally complete the play cast.George Young decides to leave Bondurant and puts ln his appearance. He promises to 'be the seventh permanent actor and to stay with them through the Senior year. Mr. Yarner takes over as 9up't. and his wife tries her hand at the commercia1L lr. Sith, Band and History. also comes to Johnston High. The Juniors put on a play 'Angel Unawares. They entertain the Seniors at the In-knead Beta and give valuable aid to them during their last das in Johnston School. and now at last the curtaln rises on the final scene. Bill, Juanita, George. Luella. Harlan larjorle and Carl are Smiors! They are the leaders ln the school. Carl is the Claes president George is the president of the Student Council: Clie promises lr. Yarner to restrain from any urge he may have to shoot paper wadel: Luella is the Ioothall teen, lun time le spent in putting out the lnnual, and the Golden Dragon. In all the years to come they will very likely look back with longing on these days which will so soon he gone.
