This we did, and again we went to West Des Moines for the contest. The highlight of the performance was the trip to and from the contest on the bus. At Christmas-time, we gave a program for P. T. A. Dorothy Sandegren portrayed an angel---Oh! what deception!!! Fifth grade came quickly with Miss Doris Lodge as teacher, and the new eleven little dead-end kids added two more wicked little mud- slingers, namely: Bill Moss and Frances Longo. We appointed monitors every week, and Oh! how they suffered if they did anything against the will of the majority. Mies Hella Rhodes was our teacher in sixth grade, but she became ill and died. Mrs. Wheaton then became our temporary teacher. We were glad to welcome Pat Whieler to our class. Pat proved her undiv- puted strength, when she quickly and thoroughly threw Nick Vignovich, the sixth-grade Cassanova, out the second-story window. We made an exhibit of old modes of travel, foods, clothing, etc. We also wrote small plays of historical theme to present before our own class. Mrs, Nellie Taylor took Mrs. Hheaton'e place later in the year, and we finished her tutelage. Mrs. Bellou was the teacher in seventh grade and since we wereon the same floor with high school, wo felt we had really grown up. Here Mary Lee Kirkpatrick Joined ue and was accepted when she proved hen- self capable of the most shocking mischief by wiring Mrs. Ba1lou's chair, and connecting it to the electricity. Mrs. Vee Dowling and Mrs. Ballon were our eighth grade teachers. Mrs. Dowling helped us prepare a play, WDon't Take M Penny', which we gave as a regular high school play is given. We gave a matinee and an evening performance. Though the crowds weren't large, everyone env Jeyed the production immensely. Even the errors added greatly to the performance. In the ninth grade, our teachers were Mr. W. Clampitt, Mrs. M. Berry, Miss M. Fritz, and Mr. G. Hartman. Margaret Reese left us for a time to go to Amos Hiatt School in Des Moines, but she returned be- fore the school year was over. We were all very excited about going out for basketball, and had much fun. The assembly hall was very new to us, but we finally get used to it. Your new faces appeared among our ranks in tenth grade. They be- longed to Lyle Billings, Ramona Crowell, Bud Fischer, and Ruth Long. Our teachers were Mrs. Scott, Mr, Hartman, Miss Fritz, and Mrs. Berry. This was the year of our first real class party. t SCHOOL DAYS s Min Fritz wee our sponsor and we had many an enjoyable time in the school gm on e Friday night. Peel spoke on WTuberculosisJ' Mrs. C. O. Hoyt gave an interesting talk on NComic Books, and Why Children Like Themd' Mr. Gleetie Devine spoke on WJuvenile Delinquency'. Our children in school gave us the Christmas program, and have furnished many musical selections on other programs. The Junior high gave two plays for the Founder's Day program. In January, the parents found that they could relax and have a good time at the Adult Fun Night. The P. T. A. has carried out several successful projects during the year. The health of the school was considered, when in co-opera1- tion with the nurse. The kindergarten end the high school received patch tests for Tuberculosis. We purchased a folding cet and several blankets to be used by those who became ill while in school. In the interest of good grooming, mirrors were placed in the rest rooms. The home room mothers of the P. T. A. sponsored He11owe'en parties tor the grades and the high school. The high school had a New Years eve party given by this same group. The P. As I fly over Moscow where the Olympic games are being held, I ben-tell that the U. I can distinguish Ruth Long with Pearl Buck on a snipe hunt which is perhaps the biggest hunt in the experience of Mr. Buck. I turn eastward and fly over Sian, Is that a small community I see down there? No, it is the King of Siam, formerly Jim Hall, with a few of his 800 wives. Now to China and the small Chinese provincein which Donna Crees is a radical communistic governor. During a recent elec- tion, she personally strangled all individuals who took the chance to vote against her. ' On my way to South America, I fly over a small, isolated island in the South Sea, It was on this secluded island that Pat Whisler was narooned while on a world-wide hunt for a husband, In Rio do Janeiro I visit the home of largaret Reese, who until recently was the friendly undertaker of Rio. She has retired from business because she made enough money to retire during a recent epi- demic. In Hollywood, California, Don Zarley is enjoying his business as a private detective. He has trained a pack of wolves to trail any'beau- tiful woman he seeks. Another person who lives in Hollywood is Irene Boyer, who has replaced Gene Autry as the nation's most popular singer of cowboy songs. She is also a topnotch yodeler. In Reno, Jerry Cousineau's name is in the headlines as she is in court seeking a divorce fron the ancient, but rich, Charlie Chaplin, In the South, Babe Rastovec recently astounded the political world when the state legislature elected her as Governor of Georgia. She guarantees while supremacy. Marolyn Robertson is the star pianist of the famed Guy Lumbago's jazz hillbillies. Many have not wandered so far from their school, Margaret Goodman, for instance, works in Des Moines. She is the head waitress atBabe's, Mary Lee Kirkpatrick is the latest stage sensation at the localShanty- town theater in the metropolis, Dogpatch. Nick Vignovlch has realized his life ambition and is now the motorman of the D,M. k C.I.R.R.inter- urban. He recently set a new record for being on time A days in a.row. J.H.S, is finally getting a new gymnasium. It is new under construc- tion by the Moss Construction Co. of Johnston. It will be completed I am running out of moon beams, which I have to have for breathing at this altitude, so I will have to fly back to the moon to get more, Thanks for reading this letter, and I will be back next year to tell you more.
