FURE WORD The Senior Year of the class of 1966 is nearly over. We look back n now, in the twilight of our high school years, to the days when we were freshmen, and then we think of the intellectual darkness which encompassed us. But that was nearly four years ago, and the interim period some of the darkness has been lifted. The light has begun to dawn and the darkness is being dispelled. Here, then is the 1966 HAWK. We hope you enjoy it. And may the lights which have guided us for four years guide the classes of the years to come. Willie M. Russ Dennis Williams . . . . Barbara Liles . . . . . We knew that this expedition was different, so different that it took special leaders to guide us safely through this unknown land. It so happened that these special persons were ones we all became better aquainted with, Nlr. Ennis, Mrs. Freemen, Mr. Murphy and lvlr. Wall. Our leaders divided this vast group into sections. Each sections chose their own ex- ecutives to help maintain guidance. Each member of the group played a very active role throughout the remaining of that year. Another year and another task were coming, the sophomore year. The sophomore year was only our second climb toward success. We were nearing the top of the mountain. Our team was hitched to a new crew. The leaders were Mr. Adams, and Mr. Wall. We were lucky that year to hace Mr. Wall move up with us. The captain Sandra Sanders, Co-Captain Edna Frazier, secretary Dora Dublin, and assistant Billie I. Lewis were elected to work as helpers for the group. We were very energetic teammates all working toward success. During this year we lost one of our top honor roll students Charles Joyner. I-Ie was an exchange student from our school. We also gained new students that year, Brenda Watson, George Williams and Ruby Hargrove. We eagerly accepted them as adventures to the land of success, the year soon ended. Our first aim was re-organization for our junior Class. Under the leadership of Mr. Murphy and Mrs. McCoy we were almost to our goal. Captain john Turner, Co- Captain Edna Frazier, Secretary Billie I. Lewis, corresponding Secretary Sandra Sanders, and Treasurer George Williams. Some of the highlights of the junior year were the selecting of Miss junior, Sandra Sanders, four of our teammates, George Williams, Barbara Liles, Gerald Rowland and Willie M. Russ were initiated into the National Honor Society, our junior-Senior Prom Was most exciting! The theme Arabian Nights was the talk of the town. The scenery was magnificent. We had junior week and a special day set aside for what we called Hillbilly Day . This day we all dressed as farmers and Hillbillies. That was a day of much laughter and enjoyment. We almost hated to see the Junior year end because it was a year full of memories and gratitudes. As all good things must come to an end we were coming toward the climax of the goal we set out to achieve. Success and rewards awaits us at the end of the mountain. We are finally on top of the mountain. Behind every great star there lies the true meaning of its brightness. Our leaders Mrs. C. G. Ennis and Mr. T.j. Dublin are our guiding light. We look towards them for guidance and understanding. Our Captain in command Willie Mae Russ, Co-Captain George Williams, secretary, Sandra Sanders, corresponding secre- tary Patricia Merritt abd Treasurer Gerald Rowland. They were ready and willing to bring our expedition to success. We can not express our gratitude to our principal Mr. J. F. McNeill for giving us permission for this great expedition. The senior class has been very active thus far. The senior class was most honored to have one .of our top seniors, George Williams as a finalist in the national Merit Scholarship Program. We express our congratulations and hope him much success. The farce comedy Here Comes Charlie was presented as class play. Many other activities will climax our high school days including the grandest event of all, graduation.
