f M M No day is wasted if it make ' s a memory X p: RETROSPECT ’85 JOHNSTON TECHNICAL COLLEG SMITHFIELD, NORTH CAROLINA] CHRISTMAS IS NEAR — HAVE A CUP OF CHEER In earl ’ December JTC’s Student Government Association got everyone in the holiday spirit by hosting a Christmas Reception for students, faculty and staff in the student lounge. As Christmas holidays came closer, morale got markedly higher. Twas the season to be jolly! 9 i FESTIVE FLOATS SIGNAL CHRISTMAS SEASON JTC’s Student Government Association entered a float in the 1984 Smithfield Christmas parade. Aboard are: (L to R) Debra Windham, Bruce Tart, .Annette Massey, Jay Hinton (in his jammies), Stacey Beasley, Jeanette Massey and Barbara Lawhon. The Continuing Ed Division also put together an impressive Christmas float which was entered in several area parades. Coordinated by Ms. Pam Earp, and entitled “Give Yourself A Present,” the float won first place in the Clayton Christmas Parade (non-commercial division) and second place in the Kenly parade. 3 “THE SUNSHINE MAN’ 4 REGISTRATION IS REGISTRATION IS REGISTRATION . . . In all niy college expectations, I never planned on registrations; Do they ever tr my patience Not to mention perspirations! It’s kind of nutty. “End of the line, buddy!” That cashier’s heart Ain ' t made of putty. But let’s look at the situation, I ve got a feeling of anticipation: I know I’M ready for graduation, ’CAUSE I’VE PASSED MY FINAL REGISTILATIOX! D Dolly At JTC? IT WAS JUST MY IMAGINATION! Make-believe took on a new meaning in March when JTC’s Cosmetology Department presented their annual student hairstyling competition entitled “Fantasy — It’s Just My Imagination.” A flourish of flowers, greenery, and candelabra transformed the student lounge into a floral phantasm as twenty-six models wowed the crowd with spectacular tresses and formal dresses. Three categories of competition — hairstyling, make-up and nails — were featured and evaluated by a panel of cosmetology professionals. Hairstyling competition was won by Shelby Johnson, student with Anita McLamb as her model. In second place was Steven Creech, student and his model, Michelle Cockrell. Third place went to Teresa Sorrell, student, and model Beverly Sorrell. ■ b ' m n ■.? . -. 6 Teresa Sorrell, student and her model Beverly Sorrell, won both the nail and make-up competition! Other awards included: Best attitude — Leafy Coombs; Best Student — Sue Beasley, and Ms, Congeniality — Denise Godwin. A highlight of the show was the high-class entertainment featuring such name stars as Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and The Supremes! Flowers and decorations were done beautifully by the JTC Floriculture class under direction of Bennett Barnes. Elegant refreshments were provided by Sederis Strickland’s Foodservice Specialist students with a hand from Nicky Cox. Les Stone handled photography and music and “handsome” escorts were Jay Hinton and Bruce Tart. Outrageous! 8 A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS! As a joint class project this past Christmas, the Retail Floriculture and F ' oodservice Specialist students took over the Smithfield Woman’s Club facility and turned it into a “Holiday House!” Hundreds visited this “Christmas wonderland’ open house to sample sumptuous selections of refreshments prepared and served by Foodservice students, and to view a floral phenomenon of elegant decorations created by the Floriculture folks using native Johnston County greenery, apples, pineapples, lemons, limes, cranberries, carnations, roses, burgundy satin ribbons, lace, cinnamon sticks, candles and religious items from the collection of Bennett Barnes, Floriculture instructor. Foodservice students participating in the project were: Gail Pope, Rose Peedin, Paulette Bryant, Brenda Braswell, Evelyn Johnson, Shelia Newkirk, Louise X ' anHoy, Christine Thompson, Wendy Gardner and Dorothy Johnson. Their instructor is Sederis Strickland. Hammers clanging and saws buzzing became familiar sounds on campus this year as a large addition was made to the Wilson Building. This two-story facility will house a computer center (upstairs) and a much-needed enlarged student lounge (downstairs). The “open door” policy got new meaning this Spring as the Wilson Building received a face lift with the addition of classy glassy doors. Come on in! 15 “CANDIED ’’ CAMERA “Yes, I’m wearing jeans.” 16 IT Shelton A. Benson Angier, NC Matthew W. Heartley, Jr. Clayton, NC John S. Shallcross Smithfield, NC William R.
