RETROSPECT ’84 JOHNSTON TECHNICAL COLLEGE SMITHFIELD, NORTH CAROLINA A FAMILY CHRISTMAS 1 . A brightly decorated Christmas tree in the Wilson Building lobby puts us all in the Spirit. 2. A JTC tradition is the Christmas lunch for faculty, staff and friends, held this past year at the new Vocational Building. JTC Trustees Mrs. Lena Holt (left) and Shelton Benson (right) enjoy one of Ed White’s humorous stories. 3. The hungry wait to be fed. 4. Eldon Strickland and Bill Fischer rather eat than talk. 5. Glenn Melton (lower left) shows how to make best use of available plate space. 1. STORMZ thundered at the Fall dance. 2. Richmond Tech visiting artist, folk musician Bill Mansfield, sang here in December about the farmer ' s wife who was so mean that when she died, the devil sent her back. 3. At November ' s Farm and Trade Show, JTC unveiled a sparkling new display. i — .i.i . .v — ;jii COMPUTERIZED REGISTRATION HELPS A BIT . . When the Fall quarter began last year, JTC students were introduced to our new computer system. It was love at first byte as computerized registration meant shorter lines and faster service! Then simply move next door to the Business Office . . . •tue First turn in registration forms at Registrar ' s window . . Pay tuition and fees, and receive printed schedule. 4 AROUND THE CAMPUS . . 1. In March, ground was broken for a two-story addition to the Wilson Building. The addition will house a computer center, student lounge and several classrooms. 2. Auto repair students give car a ' ‘lift. 3. Seldom seen at JTC — an almost-empty computer lab. 4. Advanced Cosmetology students show their style. 4 WORK . . . W X y iims0w m‘ 1 11 ;• g 4 1 NORTH CAROLINA TRUCK DRIVER SCHOOL C H E V R O Johnston Technical College offers a program unique in the State Community College System — the North Carolina Truck Driver Training School. Founded in 1949 at N.C. State University, Johnston Technical College has been operating the School since 1974. Last August, the School moved from Raleigh to a new million-dollar facility here at JTC’s Smithfield campus. During the eight-week course, students get on-the-road training, preventive maintenance and rules and regulations classes. The program is recognized as one of the finest of its kind in the Nation. 9 iiiiaab 13 15 FAMOUS BOB TOSSES SALAD CONFERENCE Last October, Famous Bob Inskeep, WRAL 101 DJ, and Irregardless Restaurant owner Arthur Gordon tossed a “Salad Conference” for Student Affairs personnel as a result of former counselor Hal Smith ' s prize-winning poem. Other JTC staffers were greens with envy as Inskeep and Gordon received the tomato-red carpet treatment, and the event mushroomed into a 24-carrot affair. Lettuce also mention that Smith presented Famous Bob a 1983 RETROSPECT to add a little dressing. Oil right, that’s enough. OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES Shelton A. Benson Angier, NC William R.
