There exists for man a constant pinnacle of achievement Wherein he must stretch himself forth As the creeping leaves of the crocus To bask in the warm rays of understanding. Utilizing this inner struggle for knowledge, Man has aspired to the soaring spectacles of the seagulls And adapted to the subterranean oscillations of the ocean; He has reached out to embrace the mysteries of other worlds, And he has reached out to conquer the afflictions and destitutions Of his own world. Without this revitalization and expansion Of knowledge and understanding, There is no hope: the weak will remain weak the poor will remain poor — Nothing will change, And man will shame himself by wasting his God-given gifts Of knowledge and reason and thought. For what is man to be If he does not aspire to his highest potential? He will remain as the grains of sand From which he is made To be blown away by the winds of time. J.J. (1976) 16

We proudly dedicate the 1977 Retrospect to Mrs. Ester Parker for her many years of service to the faculty, staff, and students of Johnston Technical Institute. Mrs. Parker’s patience and diligence are matched only by her warm and sincere concern for all of us here at JTI. She has provided each of us with that little spark of light on those occasions when all else seemed dark. The ability to relate to others is a rare quality found in only a few individuals. Mrs. Parker possesses this remarkable quality. We were fortunate indeed to have her with us. It is with great appreciation, Mrs. Parker, that we make this presenta- tion to you.
