I-I.S. ' As you dedicate the Student, Faculty and Board of Education Annual to me, you do honor to thirty years of long hours and hard labor and the everlasting loyalty and devo- tion to honest toil. My four sons and daughters were graduated with honors from this High School. Large credit for their success, obviously, goes to this institution. My friends andlneighbors and their children and grandchildren have, in like manner, attended or graduated from this school. I hope in a small and humble way I have been a lamplighter to these mul- titude of boys and girls - young men and women who have over these thirty years con- tributed somuch to our city, state and nation by way of their friendliness, their courte- sies and their fine services. It was these personalities who walked up and down the corridors of this institution who have given direction and action to my life. Because they lived I have lived. Because they looked forward to a better day I too was inspired for a better day. The memories of the events of these thousands of young people who have dedicated themselves to ed- ucation and to our good American way of life shall forever remain with me. I sincerely hope that when I leave these class rooms, these corridors and beautiful grounds, and all the many people - students, teachers and board members alike, that you too in your memories still remember Deacon. As I wish for all Godspeed, will you kindly utter with me Payne's little prayer. Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam: Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. Roscoe, better known to us as Deacon will retire at the end of his thirtieth year of service to our school We, the Redskin Staff of 1959, wish to express our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation by dedicating this m as Mil' ii ' f ,f 5' -ff :Q ii Mr. Benitone, American history teacher, points out Here, we see students performing experiments in the places on the map to his class. lab under the supervision of Mr. Noe. 7 Q f ever orgef . You have earned the feeling of accomplishment that you have at this time. Your performances to this point are now recorded in permanent records and transcripts Your future is yours to mold as you wish. Remember the heritage of rights youenjoy in our American Way of life. Acceptyour responsibility to preserve these rights and to pass on to the succeeding generations the privileges we enjoy in a democracy. Cherish the bonds of friendship you formed here during your high school years. Keep them well and preserve always the memories of our own Johnston City High School. Carl Planinc, Superintendent Trlh cljvcz 75 y7Z4Q.5'SGyQ Through the doors of the American public school pass the future citizens of our nation. We enter through these doors that we may grow scholastically, socially, physically, spiritually and increase our understanding of self and of our fellowmen. After several years of formal education we leave through these same doors to meet the many challenges of adulthood. The trials and problems faced in school become thekhappy rnelpliries in the years ahead. . When I entered the Name the Rocket' contest I never thought I would really win. But here I am now on a three week cruise to Europe. I'm so excited! In just a few minutes we'll be off. Oh! There's the ship's horn now. We're finally on our way. Before I look around the ship I think I'll go to the ship's beauty parlor and get my hair set. Here it is. It's so crowded I'll have to wait. While I'm waiting I think I'll read awhile. Here's a paper called the 'Winstead Journal' edited by Charles Winstead. Here's an article by the star reporter, Gary Briscoe entitled 'ROCKET FINALLY REACHES MOON, The famous scientists Dr. David Columbo and Dr. Gene Adamson have invented the first rocket to reach the moon. The famous rocket was driven by Danny Dunnigan with his assistants William Mocaby, Buford Stout, Donald Craig, Ronald Williams, Larry Sanders and Tony Vatovec, Land is already being sold on the moon by real estate king, Jim Bartley. His largest piece of land was sold to Richard Smith on which he will build the first drive-in movie on the moon. My, I never thought they would really make it. Here's another article by reporters, Jim Adams and Ron Erwin. Famous surgeon, Adele Hughes, takes President's tonsils out. Honorable President of the United States, Bert Goad, reported by his private nurses Lois Baker, Carolyn Barham, Jean Heflin, Nancy Mandrell, and Loretta Blades as doing fine. Vice-President John White stood by faithfully fin case she slippedj. As I laid the paper on the table beside me I noticed a book entitled CUSTOMIZING YOUR ROCKET by Ronnie Stover. I imagine we'll all be driving rockets soon. Oh, the hairdresser is ready for me. Why it's Suzie Planinc, one of my old classmates. She is now the most famous hairdresser in the world, As she fixed my hair I looked around me and saw that her assistants were Ferrel Ray, Judy Bowman, Alice Collins, Gail Ray and Carol Singer. When I had finished there, I decided to go to the ship's exclusive dress shop and select a dress. Al- though I knew I could not afford it, I hurriedly went in. To my surprise as I entered I was greeted by the owner Donna Barra. She offered me a chair and started showing me a few dresses. As the first model came out I saw that it was Carol Grant. She was modeling a beautiful evening gown. Next came Pansy McCree and Alice Collins. Then Sue Ray stepped out wearing my favorite color blue. She was followed by Nanette Grant. The girls all did a wonderful job modeling the clothes and made it hard for me to choose one. After I had finally selected one I noticed that it was a Childer's Original. Mary Belle, another old classmate had become very famous as a dress designer. After I had dressed for dinner I still had quite a lot of time. I decided to watch television for awhile. I turned it on and sat down in my cabin to watch it. Judy Hamlin's Story Hour was just going off and the announcer Frank Stanley was announcing the Keep Talking show starring Deanna Becker. Just before the show was over I heard the dinner bell ring and I rushed to the dining room. I found a good table and sat down. As I looked at the menu the waitress, Linda Anderson, had given me, I noticed the chef, Charles Vieceli was famous the world over for his outstanding foods. Linda told me that Beverly Sanders, Delores Dawes, and Norma Edwards also worked as waitresses on the ship. Corrine Kerr designed the decorations for the tables. As I sat there waiting for my order I saw to my surprise Mrs. Judy fSeagleJ Barron, Mrs. BettyfGibbsJ South, Mrs. Ellen fStilleyj Jones and Mrs. Carol fStritzelJ Sanders. They were all on their long awaited honeymoons. All at once I heard a loud roar of laughter and saw Mary Cox, Saundra Holder, and Jessie Krasek, and in the middle was, yes, Christine Pasquino telling another one of her crazy jokes. I waved and after the laughter had died downl asked how they were getting along. They said they were secretaries now and were all on a vacation cruise to Europe. We then started recalling the wonderful times we had had at dear old J. C. H. S. Then I asked if they knew where Sue Crabtree was now. Jessie told me she GLSA' yUI'0P5QCy was a history teacher at the high school in Johnston City. Chris told me that there were a lot of our old classmates on board. She pointed out to me a large table near the door. There sat Mickey Goodman, David McNeal, Charles Buskill and Gary Imhoff all famous football stars with their coach, Delmer Mitchell. Their manager, Joe Mitchell, was also with them. They were all on vacation after winning the world's cham- pionship in football. At another table I saw Gary Parrish, that wealthy Texan, who had so many oil wells he burned one every time he wanted to light a cigar. Next to him was Ralph McCree and Russel Anderson, both wealthy cattlemen. They owned ranches all over Johnston City. All at once the lights went out and the ship's floor show started. Then a large spotlight beamed onto the stage. The band members Bob Francescon, Kenneth Gaddis, Tom Galbreath, Bruce Gibbens, and Norman Lyell played softly while the announcer, Lewis Miles, introduced the famous recording Stars with fifty golden records, Alan Fleming and Danny Stephenson, better known as 'The Flatheads. Next there was a beautiful dance by Brenda Timmens. I had seen her on TV before. She did a wonderful job. This was followed by a wonderful balancing act by Melba Edwards and Velma Gill. It was very entertaining. 'They only fell twice during their whole act. Then there was a solo by Sandra Cusson. She was a great opera star and was on her way to an appearance in France. Next I almost burst with laughter when comedian, Tom Royce, did his act. I-le had been given the award for being the funniest commedian in the United States this year. Last but not least came that famous hillbilly singer of the Grand Ole Opera, Bernard Murphy, and his yodeling parakeet. It was a wonderful show and as I lay in my cabin late that night I said a small, silent prayer thanking God for this rare and wonderful opportunity of once again seeing all my old classmates. I fell asleep that night remembering the dear old J. C. H. S. where I, many years ago, spent the most wonderful years of my life. Janice Cobb YW H 1 fb Q , . G15 ga l Q 4 f . The parade began in the afternoon and halted downtown with the cheerleaders leading us in an excit- ing pep meeting which was enjoyed by all. During the parade that afternoon, a group of judges selected the Y.F.C. float as the winning float. At five-thirty, a Gabfest was held in the school library for all the alumni. That evening, the Johnston City Indians scored a 26-6 victory over the Marion Wildcats. Ted Paschadeg and his orchestra provided appropriate music for the dance, which began immediately following the game. The gym was beautifully decorated in the school colors. To climax the Homecoming festivities, Miss Pansy McCree was crowned Homecoming Queen of 1958 by Mick Goodman, captain of the football team. Approaching the throne, to the music of Deep Purple, Miss McCree looked lovely wearing the traditional black velvet robe and carrying a hand bouquet of white carnations. Miss Betty Gibbs was chosen Maid of Honor, and was escorted by Delmer Mitchell. Thus ended a lovely Homecoming, which will long be remembered by the students and alumni of J. C. H.
