I. p Class Prophecy Dear Diary, May 22, 1983 I have just retumed from a reunion where I enjoyed seeing most of my old classmates from Johnston City High School. I had a lively chat with each of them and we had a wonderful time talking about the days when we were at J,C, I-LS. Here is the day I have just lived. One of the first persons I chatted with was Sally Davis. Sally told me she was an airline hostess for T.W, A. She told me JoAnn Jansco was also a stewardess for T. W,A. and John Hans- ford was the pilot of the plane. Sally said she had met some very interesdng people from our class of '58, Among them, were Everett Grant, President of the United States, Curtis Ewing, Vice President and Donnie Labotte, Secretary-Treasurer. All of these important officials were unable to come to the reunion. While Sally and I were talking, Mrs. Tom Truran fformer Thelma Sextonj, and Evonne Hines walked up. They are both fashion designers in Paris, France, As I looked around, I noticed Linda Fehrenbaker, Sharon Zasada, and Wanda Dorris in a group talking. As I walked over to join them, they started telling me about their nursing careers I enjoyed this very much because I am a nurse myself. Sharon is a nurse to the famous surgeon, Jerry Halbin in Florida. Linda and Wanda are nurses to the outstanding M.D, , Robert Hayes at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Colleen Coleman arrived accompanied by Mrs. Glen Murphy fformer JoAnn Dragovichj, Mildred Muir, and Mrs. Larry Cotton fformer Linda Laddj. Colleen and Mildred told me they are secretaries in a large office firm in New York City. Mrs. Glen Murphy is a hair stylist and Mrs. Larry Cotton is a Patricia Stevens Model in Chicago. While talking to these girls, JoAnn Nargle, Catherine Kowalis, and Delores Poskevich came over to chat. JoAnn is a famous comedian on Broadway: Catherine and Delores are both secre- taries in the Pentagon Building in Washington, D. C. Then I spoke to four of our top scientists who had just retumed from the moon. They are Lindell Anderson, Roger Bell, Jim Holderfield and Vernon Hawkins. I glanced at the daily paper from the moon which was entitled, Moon Progress. Then I talked to two coaches, Sonny Schwarm and Richard McClintock. Sonny is a coach at Iowa State and Richard is coaching at Michigan State. Gerald Engram was with them who is now a professional football player. As I was talking to these former classmates, I heard beautiful singing in the background. I noticed it was two of my classmates, Marcia Canaday and Judy Fairbanks. Gloria Moore, a famous pianist, accompanied them on the piano. Marcia and Judy are top vocal singers in America. Along with them, was Ruth Alice Mitchell, a dance instructor, from Califomia, I then saw Ronald Motsinger drive up in a car which looked as though it had come from outer space but he told me it was one of his hot rods he had just built. With him were three of his mechanics, Loren Anderson, Jerry Avery, and Ralph Beaver. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Fairbanks fforrner Joan Dascottej told me they are prosperous owners of three exclusive dress shops in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. I was just thinking of what an enjoyable time I was having when Jenell Smith and Sue Shelton stumbled into me, Jenell is a minister in a huge Baptist Church. Sue is the assistant pastor. Class Prophecy Then I met Loretta Hall and Mary Davis. Loretta is a nurse in the Air Force and Mary has chosen a career in the Marine Corps. I learned that Sheila Mckeynolds has become a lawyer and she is assisted by her secretary, Roberta Edwards. As I was having a wonderful time meeting my old friends, Charles Forcum, an electrical engineer, walked up with Maynard Goddard. Maynard is the owner of a chain of drug stores all over the nation. Then I talked with Leamon Robertson and Dwight Spiller. Leamon owns a large cattle ranch in Texas. Some of the cowpokes who work on his ranch are William Devine, Louis Malone, and Jerry Martin. Dwight is President of the Carpenters Union in the United States. Then I recognized a very successful-looking man, Lyndell Trout, who told me he is Presi- dent of the Bankers of the United States and with him is Albert Sullivan, an outstanding Wall Street broker. Glenda Spiller explained to me the trouble she had as a school teacher. She said she could understand the teacher's feelings when we were in high school. With her was Sharon Springs, a Wall Street accountant. Then I spoke to two of the senators from Illinois. They are Otis Brymer and Cletus Burch- field. My how some of these people have advanced since their high school daysl ll Along with them is Dallas Campbell, President of Cyclone Fence Company in Chicago, Illinois. Neva Edwards and Elaine Hill told me they are secretaries in the Empire State Building which is owned by Keith Cole and Jack Ragsdale. Next, I talked to Harry Oxford who is a foreign correspondent for the New York Times owned by Charles Warren and Ronald Payne. Eugene Royce, head of the F.B.I, , explained to me what an exciting life he has trailing criminals all over the country. I spoke to L. E. Jones, a famous architect for a large museum in New York City. with him is J. W, McNeill, an admiral in the United States Navy. Sue Clendine, a famous political writer, told me about the slander she received for some of the things she wrote. with her was her private secretary, Wanda Chamness. Glancing around, I noticed Carol Timmins who informed me she owned a beauty salon in California, Her assistants in the salon are Barbara Blankenship and Virginia Winters. Next, I enjoyed a visit with Glendine Eberhardt, a wellfknown interior decorator, accom- panied by her assistant, Marilyn Poskevich. with them is Geraldine Browder, hostess of a hotel in Chicago owned by Nancy Strunk, Phyllis Parrish, and Rosalie Eberhardt, Betty Woodward told me she is working at the hospital in Elgin, Illinois. Judy McCombs and Ann McKnight are also on the staff at this hospital. Then I talked to Sharon Dodd, who is a physical education teacher at Miami, Florida. Louise Anderson and Sue Ice are also members of the faculty in Miami. I had a magnificent time today visiting with all of my classmates. Dear Diary, I consider this as the happiest day of my life. Jean Miles Junior Class Umcers Adele Hughes, secretary-treasurerg Judy Bowman, vice president, Bert Goad, president. Junior Class History On September 3, 1954, we, then a group of bewildered, confused, green freshmen, began our first year at the Johnston City High School. After a period of going to the wrong classes and trying to survive the stampedes in the halls between classes we settled down and elected class officers. They were Mickey Goodman, presidentg Janice Cobb, vice presidentg and Paul Harper, secretary-treasurer. Donna Barra, Suzie Planinc, Bert Goad, and Alan Fleming were elected to represent our class in Student Council. Soon after we selected as our homecoming candidate and attendant Suzie Planinc and Janice Cobb. Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs, Smith, and Mr. Burton were our class sponsors and guided us through this confused but wonderful first year. In our second year as silly sophomores we were a little more confident. At our first class meeting we elected class officers. We elected as president, Bert Goadg vice president, John White, and secretary-treasurer, Delmer Mitchellg Pansy McCree, Nadine lewis, and Mickey Goodman represented our class in Student Council. Again this year, we chose Suzie Planinc and Janice Cobb as our homecoming candidate and attendant. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Kowalis, Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. Tennis. Our third year as jolly juniors was indeed a busy fone. Now as old-timers of the school we were all excited over getting our long-awaited class rings. We first elected class officers. As president we elected Bert Goadg vice president, Judy Bowmang and secretary-treasurer, Adele Hughes. Representing us in the student council were: Janice Cargal, John wilson, and Keith Chapman. with our fine sponsors, Mrs. Sprague, Mrs. Jarrel, and Mr. Batts to help us, we did well in our attempt to rise in the eyes of our upperclassmen. No, our freshman year will never be forgotten because it was the beginning of a new life for us. As we begin our sophomore year, we know we'll soon live up to the title silly sophomores We chose as our officers for this year, William Crawford, presidentg Susie Smith, vice president, and Linda Perrine, secretary-treasurer. The parade began in the afternoon. The parade halted for an exciting pep rally downtown. Although it was cold, we still enjoyed the parade. Just before the game, a Gabfest was held in the school library for all alumni. Immediately following the Gabfest, we watched the Indians score a 38-13 victory over Zeigler. The dance began at eight-thirty. The music was fumished by Tommy Lawson and his orches tra. The gym was beautifully decorated in fall colors. To the music of A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody, Miss Judy Fairbanks, wearing the tradi- tional black velvet robe and carrying a bouquet of yellow mums, was escorted to the throne by Gerald Engram, captain of the football team. Miss Betty Gibbs, a junior, was Maid-of-Honor, her escort was Richard McClintock.
