And guess who did it! Two of my old classmates, Myrtle Sugg and Wanda Fox! They did it in Wanda's biplane. There's going tobe a celebration for them soon, so maybe the library will close and' I'll get a day off. Whee! 3 Nov. 3, 1935-I had the pleasantest surprise today. I was feeling so blue, when who should walk into the library but Henry Thurmondl' and Helen Malinasky. She's not Helen Malinasky any more though, but Mrs. Henry Thurmond. They've been married a week and are on their honeymoon. They told me all 'they'd done since our high school graduation. Henry is a fruit grower now with several large or' chards in Missouri, where he and Helen are going to live. They invited me to spend my vacation with them next spring. Maybe you think I won't go. March 6, 1936-There was a state teachers' meeting here today, and the library was full of visiting teachers all day. I was so busy I didn't know what to do, when I looked up and saw Tony Bryzek! He was waiting 'til I wasn't so busy, when up came Thelma Albin! And Watherd Hayes was with her! Gosh! It seemed almost like a class reunion! It was closing time theng so we all went to a hotel to eat and talkp Tony.is a French teacher in Elgin, and Thelma is a Physical Education teacher in Chicago. But guess what DeaclfEye is! 'I'Ie's the assistant Illinois University football coach, right here in town, and I'd not seen him until today! Queer isnlt it? I talked so long that I'm awfully sleepy. ' P. S.: Thelma told me that Eileen Morgan teaches Domestic. Science at the same school where she teaches. She said! that Eileen's hair is redder than ever! April' 12, 1936-I got a day off todayg so I celebrated and went to see Burnf ing Love . Rudolphe le Suza and Gretel Scherbert are the stars. Have I ever told youg Diary, that I 'used to go to school! with both of them? Rudolphe's real name is Pete Walters, and Gretel's is Wilma Oiment. They, are both. wonderful actors and very popular. They're engaged. . I walked home, so I'm rather tired. fi - - f I 17

One article told about the celebration of Virginia Bundren's and Vernie Clayton's wedding anniversary. They've been married four i years and they have a little boy one year old. ' There was another news item telling about Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Duncan, nee Nadme Coulehan, being at home on a visit. Lowell is certainly living up 'to his old I nickname, Noisy , for hels a drum player in a big Chicago orchestra. Sept. 6, 1936-Guess who's running for Congressman, at home? Sam Pinson! 2 I was terribly surprised, when I read it in lvlonfs last letter. just think what an hon' E or it will be if he's elected, for he'll be one of the youngest men in ithe House. ll' And guess who's running for mayor! Jewell Grafton! That certainly was surf ,prising, but she'll make a good one. - l Next thing you know, Diary, Illl be running for president of the United States! And 'be elected, too! Dec. 20, 1936+I worked hard all day, and so I came home and read, instead of going out. I read a new Cupid's Diary . One story in it was so good that I looked 'to see who wrote it. Who do you suppose it was? Fleta Simpson. 'LFleetie always was rather romantic , but I never thought she'd be a writer of L'romantic stories. I I was so sleepy, I forgot to say that Mary Battani illustrated Fleta's story. The 5 pictures had some of the 'cutest girls in them, and they were all dressed the Hspiff fiest ! 1 Feb. 28, 1937-Believe it or not. I went to church tonight. I had been inside l f ithe church about ten minutes, when the preacher stood up. But when I saw who li he was, I almost keeled over! It was John Cuthbertson! Imagine it! He preached an awfully good sermon. I May 12, 1938-Pearl came up from Birmingham, Alabama, where she edits a I radical newspaper, andl we have been painting the town . We went to see the mu' ' sical comedy The Dancing Dolls last night. It was quite good, having many beau' I tiful girls and good looking men in it. The performance was a little late in begin' ning, and the producer came out to quiet the audience. It was then that we received the shock of our lives. The manager was none other than Richard McAnelly! He used' to sit in front of us in English IV class, back in 1929. Now isn't that a coin' cidence? After the show, we went back stage and talked to Mac. We had' a lovely time discussing the old days. While we were thus engaged one of- the girls in the Doll chorus came out, dressed in furs and jewels, and all the extra paraphernalia. 31 I i rf Gs? 1' llxiii'-fee '5' dm- -f -, 'LIIID - I A 18 iii., f lm!
