These are heartfelt feelings of gratitude, fond memories and loss. The student body wishes to express its gratitude that the late President Dibden spent his last years charting the future of our college. His visions are now an enduring reality, the reality of a viable intellectual community. It is our hope that his successors will treat his work with respect. We also would have the community of our college, as a whole, keep the memory of our late President in a proper perspective. His kindness, his understanding, and his dedication to principle will perform a lasting serv- ice to this community. This service can be twofold. His memory can be a guiding light through the coming years. Our memory of him can also serve as an inspiring inner light to each of us in our search for excellence. We wish to express to the family and all others who hold the memory of the late President dear, our sense of great loss. Our late President was an exceptional man, a man of direction, and a man filled with a capacity to accomplish. The loss of such a man can be nothing less than great. It is ln this man's strength, however, that we shall find the promise of the future. He built a community which is self-sustaining and possesses its own strength. Dr. Dibden knew that he was not to be our President for- ever. Therefore, he did not build himself into the design of the Govern- ance. We, the Class of 1970, dedicate our yearbook to the memory of Dr. Arthur J. Dibden. May his life always instruct us in man's true potential. 3
