In 1953 the Freshman Class of Johnson-St. Paris High School began with the following members: Bob Lawson, Kay Moore, Bill Thornton, Joyce Rosell, Lavelva Brown, Jerry Journell, Kathryn Crow, Kenneth Myers—President, Mike Connell, Butch Hoes, Ronnie Stradling, George Barr, Susan Smith, Sue Ann Stockton - Vice President, Connie Rushaw, Beverly Spriggs, Genevieve Metcalfe, Lowell Sloan, David Pence, Judy Pratt, Sandra Scott, Barbara Jordan, Phyllis Hunt, Phillip Scott, Barbara Cutler, Ivan Thackery, Linda Zerkle - Secretary — Treasurer, Linda Davis, and Bob Rutt. The projects this year were a 50-50 Dance and a Bake Sale. A Christmas Party was given by the room mothers. Our Class advisor was H. W. Doc Staley. In the Sophomore Class we gained Eddie Gravitt and Bob Dovell as new students. We lost Lavelva Brown and Kathryn Crow. Officers this year were: Susan Smith - President, Kenneth Myers - Vice president, and Connie Rushaw - Secretary - Treasurer. Projects were a Chicken Supper, Bake Sale, Fall Festival Booth, and a 50-50 Dance. A Halloween Party was given by Mr. Fullerton, and a Christmas Party by Susan Smith. This, our Junior Year, we gained as classmates Jeannine Myers, Phoebe Lee, Emma Lou Meeker, and Helen Hiltibran. We lost Bob Rutt, and Kay Moore. Officers were Ivan Thackery, President; Linda Zerkle, Vice Presi- dent; Butch Hoes, Secretary; and Kenny Myers, Treasurer. We chose royal-blue and white as class colors, white carnations as the flower, and the motto: A wish is to build a dream on. Projects this year were a Steak Supper, Class Play, Fall Festival Booth and a Sadie Hawkins Dance. A Christmas Party was given by Bob Dovel. Our Class advisor was Mrs. Fullerton. Our big event this year was the Junior-Senior reception held at the Urbana Country Club with Bobby Wertz Orchestra playing to the theme, Moonlight and Roses. In this, our last year at S.P.H.S., we gained Kathryn Crow and Vivian Clester. We lost George Barr, Bob Lawson, Billy Thronton, Lorraine Boggs, and Helen Hiltibran. Officers were elected as follows: Judy Pratt, President; Sue Ann Stockton, Secretary; and Bob Dovel, Treasurer. Projects this year were as follows: Fall Festival Booth, Chicken Super, P.T.A. Baby Sitting, Fish Fry, Homecoming Dance, Yearbook, Bowling Alley, and Senior Day. A Christmas Party was given by Susan Smith. Our class advisor was Mr. David Whitehead. We wish to thank the Junior Class for the fine reception given us on May 10, 1957. On May 1st an excited Senior Class left for a grand 5-day tour of New York. To end our High School days the Baccalaureate was held on May 19th and the final Commencement on May 21, 1957. History written by Linda Davis
