The Roaring Tigers Of 1955” Sports Roundup And this, sport fans, is a summary of the sports highlights of the year. As the basketball season opened we were defeated by the Westville Cowboys 55 to 47. The squad ended the season with a record of 15 wins and 8 losses. The big- gest upset of the year was in the tournament when we beat Concord in the last game to give us the title of runners-up. To the surprise of all the spectators the Tigers defeated the Concord Bruins 60 to 56. At the tournament in February we lost our first game. This was when Rosewood had their revenge, for they took us by surprise and downed us 62 to 52. Our boys were not discouraged, but were more determined, beating Urbana Local 78 to 54;C-Jackson 50 to 49; Triad 51 to 50; and then wound up in runners-up position beating Concord 60 to 56. District, here we come! was the shout from everyone in the crowd. As was our luck we picked the favorites, Bradford, but this did not discourage our boys either, for they really scared those giants! However, we lost 55 to 49, but the boys really deserve a lot of praise for the way they stood up and fought, and we mean FOUGHT! Ronnie Allebach led the scoring with 401 points during the season; other top scores were Wren, 362; Jones, 200; Fegus, 186. Spring soon came and the track season was open. We had several practice track meets at Rosewood, Salem, and Covington. Then came the county track meet. Although Rosewood had defeated St. Paris in the previous meets, St. Paris won the county trackmeet with43 3 4 points; Rosewood came in second with 35 1 4 points. Fergus was the meet's individual winner with 13 1 4 points, but Clem was right behind him with 10 1 4 points. Fergus won the 100 yard dash and the 220 yard dash. He was also third in the shot put, and was a member of one of the winning relays. Clem won the high jump, was second in the broad jump, and was on both of the winning relay teams. Wren was on both relays, was third in the broad jump and tied for fourth in the high jump. Poling was on both of the relays, was fourth in the shot put, and fourth in the 220 yard dash. Phil Louden was our distance runner, coming in third on the mile and fourth on the half mile. We can't forget our pole vaulters, Louie Jones and Ronnie Allebach, for they were second and third in this event with Louie second and Ronnie third. We were mighty proud of our team in the county meet. From here we went to the District Meet at Springfield, where we took third place in the 880 relay which qualified us for STATE! At State our boys did their best. Although they failed to qualify, they have made a record that we will always be proud of. These were the highlights of the sports this year. The fellows did a wonder- ful job, and you can't forget about the coach, (the best!) Sam Marchio! The only thing we can possibly say at this time is Yea, St. Paris, Tigers. May they al- ways roar as loudly as they did this year! Written by 39

et your shoes shined in the Bowery! Times Square at night Typical New Yorkers! ! Class Of I955’s Trip To New York Statue of Liberty A glorious day for the Johnson-St. Paris seniors was Wednesday, April 20, 1955. This was the day we left for New York to spend four wonderful days in the big city. We arrived Thursday morning 8:30 A.M. From the station we went to the Taft Hotel where we stayed while we were in New York. We had a tight schedule with many things to see. Among the many things we did were: A three hour cruise around Manhattan, a bus tour of Upper and Lower Manhattan, a guided tour of Rockefeller Center, a visit to Radio City Music Hall, a visit to the U.N. Building, and a view of the city from the Empire State Building. The boys, of course, saw the N.Y. Giants defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5 to 4 at Ebbets Field, while the girls saw a Broadway musical called Plain and Fancy.” A wonderful time was had by all.!!!
