S.P.H.S. SPORTS-ROUNDUP And this, students, is a summary of the sports high- lights of the year. Basketball season opened with a defeat by the Westville Cowboys . But the squad pulled up and ended the season with 10 wins and 12 losses. One of the upsets ofthe season was when the Tiger Squad beat Jackson 65-50. The next game with Concord was won in the last two seconds with a one-hander by Neer. Once again at the invitational tourney at Brown, Neer put St. Paris out over Piqua Catholic. Bob also won top scoring for one night against Salem with 27 points. In February, the squad played four games at the County Tourney, beating Concord 49-49, losing to West- ville by 3 points, beating Jackson in a thriller , with two overtimes, and losing to Woodstock by 2 points. Four ofthe boys scored over 200 points during the season. Wren lead with 279, Fitzgerald and Neer with 213, and Pauly with 201. The Reserve squad ended with 5 wins and 8 losses. The fellows showed a lot of spark and good playing. We'll have some real ball-players the next few years. St. Paris took third spot in County track and second in the meet at Rosewood. Fergus broke two county re- cords: 100-yard dash by .5 of a second and the 220- yard dash by . 9 of a second. Clem ran in second in the 880 and Wren tied for second in the high jump. The team placed third in the 880-yard relay and second in the 440 relay. Bill Poling took fourth in the shot-put to give us a total of 21 points. And these are the highlights of the sports year. The fellows all did a wonderful job and to them we shout our heartiest cheer, Yea, St. Paris. This page is sponsored by RECO, SPRINGFIELD, OHIO 35
