Homecoming 87: Thrill of VICTORY! oops! Volleyball 49 To be a part of the Johnson-Brock foot- ball team this year, it took a lot of hard work and dedication. The boys ended the season with a 7-3 record and for the first time in the Johnson-Brock school his- tory held the title as Homesteader Confer- ence Champs! They also had the privilege of going to state play-offs. Even though the first game of state proved to be a defeat, we are all very proud of the 1987 Eagle football team. Juniors were Mindi Norvell, Char- lotte Gauchat, Amy Dunekacke, and Ralph Haen. This year’s only sophomore was Jack Irons, and the team soon came to be known as ‘Jack and his women’. Since 6 of the 11 members are graduating this year, the pressure is on Jack and his ‘women’ to carry on where this year’s three state qualifiers left off. Mindy Oestmann and Amy Dunekacke qualified in Duet Act- ing and Elizabeth Allen qualified in Serious Prose. Jen- nifer Gilbert had been a finalist at districts. This year proved to be a very interesting year for the team. Since it was Ms. Mellor’s last year at Johnson-Brock, it was decided by the speech team that it should be an interesting one. At districts this year, Ms. Mellor got to take the lead roil as her speech members gladly followed single file be- hind her while holding hands and doing the wave. To conclude the year, the team attended the Firehouse Dinner Theater and found that Ms. Hazen was a form- er race car driver of international fame when she de- cided to test her driving abilities at a gas station in Omaha. Congratulations state qualifiers and the rest of the team on a terrific season! Ms. Mellor, try not to forget J-B and it’s speech team and thanks for the memories. SPEECH 59 One-Act This year’s play was the female version of Neil Simon's “The Odd Couple . The two main characters were Flor- ence, played by Amy Dunekacke, and Olive, played by Mindy Oestmann. Florence is try- ing to cope with a divorce and Olive, who had been through a divorce before, decides to try and help Florence out. Other humor was added by their friends Sylvie (Jennifer Gil- bert), Renee (Tracy Haneline), Micky (Eliza- beth Allen), Vera (Mindi Norvell), Manalo (Ralph Haen), and Jesus (Jeff Gerdes). “I love big men in tight pants. This year’s one-act competi- tion was held at Peru. The act chosen involved only the ladies. Florence and Olive are dis- cussing their Spanish dates. Manolo and Jesus. The ladies worked very hard and their efforts payed off when they were recognized as an outstanding ensemble and received the runner-up trophy at their Dis- trict One-Act Play Contest. September 21st was the official open- ing day of Homecoming week. To get pumped for the upcoming games, the cheerleaders set up SPIRIT dress-up days. Monday was pajama day, Tuesday was twin day, Wednesday was radical day. Thursday was 50’s day, and Friday was red white day. The festivities continued Thursday night with a bonfire pep rally and hotdog feed. With a little help from the cheerleaders the bonfire was a great success. Enthusiasm was high and Mike Morse even had the confidence to say, “Elmwood may be the Pirates, but to- morrow night the treasure will be ours!” All of the pre-game spirit and excitement proved to be worthwhile when the Lady Eagles de- feated the Adams Hornets Thursday night. The boys continued the victory celebration Friday night by “taking the treasure” and de- feating the Elmwood Pirates 48-0. The week ended with the Homecoming dance after the football game. The theme for the evening was “Rock Steady and the gym was decorated in the colors red, black, and gold. Lyle Ed- monds supplied the music for the evening. Tears fill our eyes Because it's all gone, We’re starting a new life. We have to move on. We hope friends will keep in touch As the years pass us by, Although it hurts inside We’ll try not to cry. We think of kindergarten And our first day. Now we’ve reached the end We are going away. How do you say good-by To friends who mean so much? Will there be time To sincerely keep in touch? You’ll always have the memories Of your school years from day one. Don’t think of school as ending — Think a new life has begun. 70 Author Unknown AUTOGRAPHS 72 Autographs HtM IUNt Mr Z cU.r f.,.„ j , a ? . I We - CU Jj m Aa(. iSauchit r ‘ A - AA«
