She came as a Senior and participated in such school activities as J-Bonaires. band, chorus, girls sextet, and track. Helena also enjoyed watching the girls go to state in volleyball and basketball and the boys going to state in football. Her final thrill was taking the trip to Washington, D. C. and performing on the steps of the capitol. After going to Johnson-Brock for one year. Helena has made many friends and has many happy memories. Equipped with pop, snacks, cards, and music, everyone survived the 25-hour ride and arrived in D.C. just in time to change into their band unitorms to play on the capitol steps. After the 30-minute concert a tour of the capitol was followed by a change of clothes and a tour of the FBI building. The highlight of the trip was a tour of Arlington National Cemetery with a stop at the changing of the guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. While there everyone wit- nessed a military funeral with full honors. Other points of interest included the White House, the Washington Monument, the Viet- Nam Veterans Memorial, the Kennedy Center, Embassy Row, the National Cathedral, the Smithsonian Museums, Georgetown, an Illumi- nation Tour of the Presidential Monuments and a Riverboat Cruise. In order to make the trip, the students raised money by having a spaghetti supper, hog roast, slave auction, fruit sale, and the concession stands at football and volleyball games.
