The Pep Club sells food at ill home games during the eason and sponsors the annual pring All-Sports Banquet. Using funds gained through he club's campaign formaga- ine sales, the club bought a ii-fi set and a Fair Play score 'oani during the past two years. The Johnson Eagles completed their first year of eight-man football with a very fine record of eight wins and one loss. The only loss was to Filley by 1 point. With seven lettermen returning to Johnson, Coach Alan Stiers produced one of the finest teams in the history of Johnson. Twenty-six boys reported for practice at the beginning of the season and 12 boys won letters. Both the offense and defense, which were outstanding, enabled the Johnson Eagles to score a total of 312 points, and to hold their opponents to 57 points. Johnson downed Adams for a homecoming victory. The ceremony of crowning the queen was held at half-time. The band marched onto the field and formed an aisle through which the queen and her attendants passed. Joyce Remmers Bruggemann was crowned queen of Johnson high homecoming by the co-captains, Den- nis Bartels and Ron Oestmann. Her attendants were Rosae Lee Oestmann, senior attendant; Lois Remmers, junior attendant; Janet Meyer, sophomore attendant; and Ruth Ann Buchholz, freshman attendant. A dance was held in the new gym after the game. Ted Loomis Music Makers of Auburn furnished the music for the evening. 39 Sponsored by RIGGS JEWELRY, Auburn Initiation Say your speech! was a familiar saying to the freshmen, by the seniors, Friday, September 5, as the freshmen were being officially initiated. Girls wore overalls and overshoes and boys wore sacks or skirts with ladies' shoes and a few other odds and ends attached. As the freshmen came to school, their faces were immediately well decorated by the seniors. After the dismissal of school, the freshmen were led by seniors through town. Immediately following the parade, the seniors served a supper in the grade school gym in honor of the freshmen. Kangaroo court was held after supper. Among some consequences given to the freshmen were contests of eating, dancing, dressing, undressing and proposing. Then all the freshmen received their spankings and that ended court. A dance followed which was interrupted by a severe storm.
