Starting from scratch, Coach Bob Kechely developed a fast aggressive team that had both a fine running and passing attack. From its first loss to a fine Talmage team to its bruis- ing attack that crushed Brock, the football team made a fine showing. So let us congratulate the football team of 1954 for its outstanding record. Junior Class Play Presented on Nov. 9, 1954 Directed by Mr. Varley Walter Greer, a regular American boy, is spending all his time perfecting his football skill so his sand-lot team can win the Saturday game. Before Saturday comes a black Friday when life suddenly turns dark with troubles for Walter. To help cinch a big real estate deal with Mrs. Hildegard Kirk, Walter's motheragrees with Mr. Kirk that Walter should go to dancing school, with Cecil Kirk, who, according to Walter, is a drizzling drip. When Cecil gets a black eye, Walter's younger sister, Lynn, says Walter planned to give Cecil a black eye. Jane, the girl next door, adds that they were fighting over her and it was Cecil's fault. Mrs. Kirk is furious and has Walter arrested. The judge believes in holding the parent responsible also, so father goes to jail, too. But Walter did not black Cecil's eye. When they really do fight, Cecil blacks Walter's eye. Ed McGinnis, who has been trying to marry Walter's older sister, Alice, shows up with the startling news that Cecil got his black eye taking boxing lessons. Mrs. Kirk gets a surprise when she learns money isn't as convincing as she always thought. And Walter decides to go dancing after all because it helps foot- work in boxing. Sponsored by Johnson Oil Co. Talmage Hatchery Mother's advice This family has its troubles Don’t hurt him, Dan How glad I am to see you! Where's the door for the key? Senior Class Play Presented on April 26, 1955 Directed by Mr. Varley This isn’t funny? The Haskins family is all a dither because they are expecting momentarily the return of their only son, Billy, who through his heroic exploits during a shipwreck has become a national figure. When the whole town has turned out to welcome Billy, his easy-going, homeless pal, Cornelius Neeley Crum is mistaken for the hero. Neeley receives the cheers and adulation, until the Haskins family appears to straighten out the error, but not until Pamela Payne, the college reporter, has whispered to Virginia, Billy's one-time sweetheart, about Neeley's (whom she be- lieves to be Billy) amorous inclinations. Complications pile one on top of the other when a local filling station is held up, Pamela elopes, and poor Billy is suspected in both cases. Neeley turns up with two hundred dollars, the exact amount taken in the hold-up. Pop Haskins and Smitty, the maid are drawn into the misunderstanding, and Billy concludes that a hero's role is not all that it should be. However, in the end Billy is exonerated and wins the girl of his choice, Neeley is adopted by one of the town's most exalted citizens, and the Haskins family once more basks in the reflected glory of The Hero. M.,the eleven seniors along with their sponsors: Mr. Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gobber, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rogge left on Sneak Day for Kansas City, Missouri. After registering at the Hotel Dixon and eating breakfast the group toured the Chevrolet Assembly Plant. After dinner tours were taken through the Jackson County Courthouse, in which the seniors enjoyed learning the techniques of operating a jail, and through Luziers Cosmetic Manufacturing Company. The even- ing was spent attending shows. At 1 0:00 Saturday morning, after shopping and a late break- fast the seniors and sponsors left for Swope Park, here they visited the zoo and enjoyed a ride on the minature train. After leaving the Park the group went to the Veteran's Mem- orial Tower. An extensive view of the skyline of Kansas City and the Athletics Ball Park was visible from this thirty-one story structure. For their last stop they went to the City Municipal Airport where the landing and take off of airplanes was observed. After this the group journeyed home. Guess Who? There's nobody like us!
