DEDICATION IN MEMORY OF: MISS NORMA JEAN KERPER November 4, 1965 In the spring of 1956, it became necessary because of increased enrollment to employ another teacher in the Business Education Department. I was looking for someone who was well-groomed, well-prepared, could teach others, who wanted to teach others, who understood High School students and who would be understood by them. Among the applicants asking for consideration was Miss Norma Jean Kerper-a graduate of the SUNY at Albany and who had three years of teaching experience in Adams, New York. Her application indicated mem- bership in several professional organizations-it indi- cated that inaddition to her teaching duties in Adams, she had directed several High School plays and super- vised other High School activities. Her letter of application concluded, lf you are in- terested ina youngwoman who loves and enjoys teach- ing, contact me ..... A previous employer said, An excellent teacher, willing to do more than ex- pected, dresses neatly, handles subject matter and students well, a grand person and teacher. I hate to see her leave. I invited her to join our staff and she agreed. ln the intervening years, she proved herself. We are all better for having lcnown her, to have been taught by her. We remember her for her smile, her cheery good morning , her enthusiasm and industriousness whether in the classroom or on the ski trail, her un- selfishness and cooperative attitude in those things which make the teaching profession one of dignity, responsibility and service. These are some of the reasons for which we shall remember you, Miss Kerper. We salute you and we hate to have you leave. This tribute was presented by Mr. Kenneth A. Myers, Sxperlntendent of Schools, at a Memorial Service for Miss Norma Jean Kerper, held in Johnson City High School, November 4, 1965. 1
