this annual Seventeenl - that wondrous age when boys and girls like bursting cacoons first face a spellbound world - of hope and hope fulfilled in dreams. Ah what a glo- rious world! A world of boys to girls and girls to boys - and books to lovers of books - and sports to lovers of sports and dreams to lovers of dreams - and all are lovers of dreams. 'That once in life is here. Seventeenl - that desperate age when boy and girls - not quite free of their cacoons - first face a world of hope de- ferred - and sharp tongued creatures - and cruel parents. A world of floods of tears and melting moods! A world of ever tightening chains which bind and pain. Yes - that once in life is here. Seventeenl Paradox! Boy now, man thenp girl now, woman thenp hope now, despair thenp joy now, gloom then. These ends of life just tug and tow till some bright day no more. And flight begins. Yes - to this age of opposites which simply never seem to meet we say adieu - for soon - too soon away into the past it flees - never once again to sense the ec- stacy of that first stretch of wings and flight.
