A world of boys to girls and girls to boys - and books to lovers of books - and sports to lovers of sports and dreams to lovers of dreams - and all are lovers of dreams. 'That once in life is here. Seventeenl - that desperate age when boy and girls - not quite free of their cacoons - first face a world of hope de- ferred - and sharp tongued creatures - and cruel parents. A world of floods of tears and melting moods! A world of ever tightening chains which bind and pain. Yes - that once in life is here. Seventeenl Paradox! Boy now, man thenp girl now, woman thenp hope now, despair thenp joy now, gloom then. These ends of life just tug and tow till some bright day no more. And flight begins. This Ghost Bird terrifies the residents ofa small village near New York by killing Brad Buckhart. The comical detective efforts of Toby, the butler, bring forth fruit when the Ghost Bird is found to be a re- spectable business man, Philip Graham. Although we lost the S.T.C. championship game, we were Eastern dlvlslon leaders. The team's success ls partly a result of the work done b the terrlflc threesome, all six foot six or taller. Seventeenl That was the number of the game. What game? Why CoachMullins'seven- teenth game at J.C., when we beat a highly touted Vestal squad by I4-6. The next week Central pulled off a very lucky 6-0 win. But the following game J.C. startled ever one tying E.F.A. 12-12. However, to all intents and purposes, this game could be consid?ered a win, for E.F.A. was thought by all to be the team to beat. The next foe to fall prey to J.C .'s potent Wildcats was E.S.S. when we downed them T9-7. Even our bitter rivals, the U.E. Tigers, were to fall before the onslaught of this wonderful J.C. team. U.E. was beaten by a score of 26-7. The next week J .C . was trounced 25-I3 by a lucky Ithaca team. After this tragic loss, we bounced back to beat a weak Utica Proctor, through the use of subs, by a merciful 39-7 score. Nevertheless, l believe, that everyone will agree that the North game was the climax of the season. After pretty well pushing J .C. around for three quarters, North went into the fourth quarter for a 6-O lead. They still held this lead ata point with three minutes remaining in the game. It was at this time that J.C., deep in it's own territory, clicked on an 83 yard Eames to Skoniecki pass play. Kubala scored the con- version to make the score 7-6. J.C. went on to win the game by making four goal line stands in the remaining 2 minutes. Cortland then beat us by a small mar gin on thelr small and very wet track. ln the closing meet of the season, the Triple Cuties meet, J .C . placed third agannst teams from North, Central, and U.E. Joe's from Texas and I guess he ain't used to bein' cooped up in a small foxhole. He ls used to ridin' the range and Wide- open-spaces, as he puts it. I got me one slick horse, iust waitin' for me to come home to him. He's the only horse on the farm and sure is a beautiful cretter. All that is clear across the ocean now 'cause we got stationed in a ruined mess of a land called Korea. When Uncle Sam picked me out of that cozy farm in the states, I had no idea he would ship me clear to no-man's land. This place called Korea sure is a mess, not one stone unturned from what l've seen. I reckon some people just ain't got no respect for God's creation. l reckon we got enough supplies to last us a few more days, if we stretch them that is, I put in as I tried to comfort Joe. Why those few vittles wouldn't last three seconds if'n I was back in Texas-back in the open. All this noise and dirt would kill any man's appetite. I do believe our air in Texas must be puri- fied by the state. Now ain't that goin' quite a way, Joe? You'd have to o uite a wa to get awa from this cluttered air. Joe caught that flyin' grenade and threw it back faster than he had ever moved in all his born days. That bush saw it comin' and didn't it iump up and give the bloodiest howl I ever did hear. That's the fastest l've moved since a loco steer chased me. Joe looked as white as a ghost. 'UncIe Sam' sure better send new orders soon or you and l's gonna pass our own and vamoose outa this rat trap. Now, Joe, ou know ou wouldn't do that.
