The Frank M. Smith school, scene of the first graduating class in Johnson Cit - 1905, now serves as an eiementary school doing a job for fifty years of preparing Johnson City youth for leadership and cit- Golden Anniversary Graduates lt may startle you young folks a bit to discover that you are celebrating your own fiftieth anniver- sary in June of this year. You had not expected that time and tide would flow so swiftly perhaps. May I say to you that it is a fine honor indeed to graduate from high school in this or any year. lt ,is quite a unique added distinction to carry the 1905-1955 Golden Celebration flag of your Alma Mater in this long procession of classes. You are thoroughly worthy standard-bearers. We are closing our public school careers together this year, you and I. Undoubtedly we both shall experience some deep-seated misgivings in this. Old friends, old familiar scenes, and old accustomed experiences, are not readily and easily put aside. But you will be going on to new fields of interest and action and to new scenes, peopled with new friends and business associates. I want to wish for you, each one, cl brimming measure of the happiness that comes with good health and right living. Success, as measured in terms of ranch-type homes, savings bonds, or sports roadsters, can be expected to follow in the wake of right living. Your next 50th Anniversary will be a golden one, literally, if ou will but follow through cleanly, confidently, and courageously, alpna lines which you already have partly established for yourselves. May good fortune go with you a t e way. H .B . Eccleston
