Theme: Going For The Gold Now we band together as Smithites, on this adventurous but tedious trek. We create our own destiny as we decide which roads to select. Though we get tired, worn and frustrated while we pursue our unanimous goal, one tries to quit but he can ' t because the fire of inspiration burns within his soul. If you opened up our heads and probed into our minds, you would see the mighty Smithites being the first to cross all lines. So if you see a prestigious Smithite, which is an honor, lo and behold, ask him where he ' s going and he ' ll say: I ' m going for the Gold By Deedra Wright .■ ' ' - .v:- Going For The Gold . The 1983-84 YearboS B ose as its theme Going t ie Gold. Seeing that 1984 is an Olympic year and we are the Golden Bulls we found this theme to be timely in many ways. Going for the Gold can be looked at in many j athletically, academically, and ambitiously. Athletically, in that the Olympic athletes will compete foTTue gum m Sarajevo in the winter and in Los Angeles in the summer; academically in the sense that we as students should Go for the Gold, in striyi flgjAjB ake the highest grades possible, and ambitiously by taking ad| opportunities in school, to be prepared to face the challenge j re woria upon graduation. Special thanks to Martin Troupe who aclii lly said the theme Going for the Gold at the beginning of the year.
