isJ ' 5 . i I f i:§ ' .« %fc c S y 1964 O l When school first begins, the students are usually idle and the campus is quiet. Then comes registration and the bookstore line. Mrs. Law, the bookstore manager, is kept busy selling books to thousands of students like this one. Classes are part of our regular routine. ' e At the homecoming dance classes are forgotten. CL u o i ■] ' ' ■ i jJI ' ' - ' ' ' ' p IB A- ' m1 ' ' ■ 1 -TdBT- :. « ' ' Kp i -M 9 ■fe ' -V ' iiH in 1 I , Jfl ' ' d ■ , u A o ' enamel a i J re i me zi i e i . Study Through study we have learned that which is essential for ef7 fective participation in our soci- ety. We have adapted ourselves to the vast amount of knowledge to the extent that our lives have been motivated to perform high- er endeavors. Study has provid- ed us with knowledge enabling us to go out into the world to aid in developing the lives of others to their fullest potentials. In a new and purposeful period of intellectual growth, we have been aided by guidance in our adjustment to the many expecta- tions of a changing society and world. Sincerity of Purpose Through the years our ultimate objective has remained before us — to excel. Thinking over the past, the road over which we have at last ascended, we must consider the remaining por- tion. As we consider this remain- ing portion, we must continue to cling, as previously, to success with earnestly, ingenuity and sin- ceretv. Prayer ' 0i God give us strength that we may fulfill our duties to their highest esteem. Give us faith that we may as future leaders guide those with whom we may come in contact. May we all ac- complish the endeavors which we have set out to fulfill. Amen. It is prayer which has aided us in achieving progress through our past years here at Johnson C. Smith University. May God forever be with us that we may use our talents to blossom into the future of tomorrow. INEZ MOORE PARKER There is a brief silence and then the class begins. Immediately the stu- dents are captured by the deep, mellow tone of Mrs. Parker ' s voice as she weaves her intellectual spell. Whether it be Victorian, Romantic or Neo- Classic, the effect is the same — literature brought to life! Hers is a devotion the steadfastness of which is returned in full measure by all who have come to know her as an instructor and friend. Hers is a love the warmth of which may be felt by anyone who... attends one of her classes . watches her work in the garden or. visits her in the home. ■f - .-V. ze S ci e b eo I am indeed pleased to extend my personal congratulations to the seniors for the diligence and persistence with which they have pursued their intellectual and cultural objectives in this educational enterprise. Johnson C. Smith University seeks to train free men and women for life and living in a free society. It seeks to prepare men and women to take their places in that society, possessed of a high degree of civic consciousness, able to respond to the challenges of leadership, and equipped to lead the Good Life. Morever. Johnson C. Smith University seeks to remain a place, an atmosphere and a tradition in Christian higher education. Let us therefore in our ninety-seventh year renew our pledge to grow stronger in all of our endeavors. R. P. Perry, President 2 ii jfj I Dean Owena Davis, Dean of Women Dean J. A. Homecoming is the time of luxurious festivities en- joyed by all. The crowning of Miss Johnson C. Smith University, always radiant with her beauty and glorious in her reign, is colorful and exciting. The Alumni are seen as they return to their beloved and never forgotten alma mater. Of course, the football game is always exciting as the Golden Bulls play vigourously and vic- toriously. We can never overlook the Homecoming dance when all the glory of Homecoming is brought to light in fellowship. As Homecoming draws to a close one sees the many instructors, students, alumni, and friends as they congregate to worship and give thanks to God. Certainly, we can never forget the greatest event of the year . . . THf cowwKwm PkRkDE GAM f DVHCJ WORSHIP -%J W :• ■ J i: ' ' tf c ' - .-rv f?
