RUFUS PATERSOX PERRY PRESIDENT A MESSAGE TO THE STUDENTS March 31, 1958 The 1958 BULL is not only a record ol our current year, it seeks to tell the story of a commu- nity of earnest, thoughtful people, and of the intellectual developments of youth within a framework of Christian principles Thus we want it known that Johnson C. Smith University is a place, an atmosphere and a tradition in Christian Higher Education. We want it to remain a place where the freedom to teach and to learn arc carefully maintained. We want it to continue to grow stronger in intellectual achievement and in moral atmosphere. We, as students, faculty and administration, have an obligation to |]rotect ninety-one years of faithful .service which has matic for adequacy in education and given to the nation strong leadership in the form of our alumni.
