PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Each year we set high goals for Johnson Bayou High School and try to improve all aspects of our programs. This school year has been a banner year for our school. In academics, we became a LEARN model school in reading. Teach- ers, students, and parents spent many hours working to achieve model school status as set forth by the 17 Criteria of Excellence. In March, our school was evaluated by a team of educators from throughout the state, and we were certified as a LEARN model school by the State Department of Education. Our school was also awarded a certificate from the International Reading Association as one of the few schools in the state of Louisiana to obtain this level in reading. In athletics, we were very well represented in all sports. Our basketball teams, wrestling teams and track teams faired well against all competition, with the track teams having the most success. The Lady Rebels finished 1st in Parish, District, Region- al, and State. The Rebel boys finished 1st in Parish, District, and Regional and 2nd in State. This is an accomplishment unheard of for any school, that is to be strong in both the girls' and boys' track teams in the same year. We are proud of all of our accomplishments. The success belong to you—the students, coaches, teachers, and parents at Johnson Bayou—and I SALUTE YOU. We look forward to the support from parents and friends to continue the improvements we project for Johnson Bayou High School. Keep up the good work, stand together, and make next year better than all others. Thank you, Howard Romero, Principal

DEDICATION First, we dedicate the 1984-85 REBEL yearbook to the students of Johnson Bayou High School. Our students have excelled both academically and athletically. They have attained goals that required much effort and determination. Our school became a model school in the LEARN process, a process designed to bring skills and the joy of learning to all students so that they will become independent learners. The enthusiasm displayed by the students was a major factor in the accomplishment of this goal. Our elementary students finished first in Cameron Parish on the Basic Skills Test. The teachers provided the direction and leadership and the students provided the ability and cooperation. Athletically, our students were outstanding. The spirit and teamwork shown by the athletes, students, fans, and coaches had a positive effect in all of our athletic programs. Our track teams achieved the highest recognition by going to the state meet and winning a championship and a runner-up position in Class C. A school can not exist without students. But even with students, a school can only be as successful as its students. Johnson Bayou High School is a successful school, and we are proud of the quality of its students. However, this dedication could not be complete without including Mr. Dan Billiot, our school board member. Mr. Billiot spends many hours at our school determining the needs of our students. He is always willing to appeal to the board for necessary learning materials, athletic equipment, or additions to our school plant. With Mr. Billiot's support, education continues to improve at our school. To show our appreciation, we also dedicate the 1984-85 REBEL to Mr. Dan Billiot. Mr. Dan Billiot 2
