SOARING JOHNSBURG HIGH SCHOOL 2002 West Ringwood Road McHenry, Illinois 60050 THE SKYHAWK, Volume IV Jeff Letzter, Editor Soaring Reach for the heavens; hope for the future . and all that you can be and not what you are.” These are words from the popularjohn Denver song, The Eagle and the Hawk.” They mean that one should always set high goals, be optimistic, and be not complacent but rather strive to meet one’s highest potential. If one word could summarize that philosophy, perhaps the best word to use would be soar.” In academics, ath- letics, plays, clubs, and all other school activities, the Johnsburg Skyhawks SOAR forward with enthusiasm, energy, and high hopes. And Johnsburg High School is only a launching pad to help guide its young people in the direction to achieve their goals. In Johnsburg Skyhawk country, people are SOARING . . . 2 4 5 Students Soar In Academics Naturally, academics is the most impor- tant part of school life. At JHS, students have many courses from which to choose. A goal of the school is to pro- vide a comprehensive education that meets the particular needs of each stu- dent. Practice makes perfect” is the philosophy of the day in Mr. Hal Thompson’s band class. 7 School Can Be Fun! Many activities both in and out of the class- room add variety to school life. Approached with the proper attitude, almost every activity or task associated with school has its fun” side to it. It’s definitely fun” to eat cream pies during school. Mr. Bill Hayes Dedication He helped to formulate the blueprints” and design a comprehensive educa- tional program forjohnsburg High School. Then, when JHS opened its doors for the first time four years ago, he worked to generate enthusiasm among the students, the faculty, and the community as everyone began the task of imple- menting the school program. Four years later, Johnsburg High School is a tremendous success. Much of the success is due to the respected leadership and energetic work of this man. This year he retires from education; he will be missed. But we have a feeling that he will be no stranger to JHS in his retirement. Our hunch is that he will continue to be seen and lend his support at many school activities. He has dedicated much of his life to young people, and now we want to dedicate some of our work to him. The staff of the 1982 Skyhawk, on behalf of the entire student body, dedicates this yearbook to our friend . . . our principal, Mr. Bill Hayes. 17 YEARBOOK STAFF. Both coach Don March and assistant coach Mike Roberts were very pleased with the accomplishments of the young men which made up the varsity team, ending the season with a 8-6 record, and the J.V. team, ending the season with a 6-5 record. They also look forward to bigger and better challenges in the future, which will hopefully bring excitement to the oncoming seasons. Loss of seniors Joe Kalisek (Captain), Mike Dalan, and Brett Everett will be greatly felt by the team, and they will be missed, according to the coaches. The varsity girls basketball team had a lot of potential considering the small squad. They had tremendous leadership from returning lettermen Sue Dehn and Cheri Kofler. With a little more self disci- pline and drive they could have achieved a greater amount of success. Next year’s squad should be very strong with five re- turning lettermen in addition to this year’s sophomore squad. We should have a much larger team with greater depth’’, said Coach Sharal Koenigseder. Sue Dehn and Cheri Kofler were elected team captains. Both Kofler and Dehn along with Theresa Hauck madr the All-Conference teams. Dehn was Co-MVP in the conference and the Skyhawks MVP. Many miles we have come. Sharing in the magic of the days. Won’t you sit and join me in my thoughts. For soon we must go our separate ways. And we sit, we talk. We laugh, and we smile. We understand all that friendship means, We know we only have a moment to realize our dreams. We’ve known days warmed by sunshine, Nights filled with stars, The coolness of the falling rain. Together we have felt happiness and pain, Have watched our lives rearrange. A treasure that’s known by very few. For a while sharing this moment, We have found a special love. One that will last our whole lives through. Anonymous. 115 JOHN'S SPORT STOP “The Home of the Athlete Your SKYHAWKS Headquarters!
