Johnsburg High School has a large assortment of heavy duty equipment. Posed next to a bulldozer are (First Row) Instructor Chuck Schultz, Dan Sande, Jim Borak, (Second Row) Mark Smid, Dan Wagner, Jim Boelens, and Scott Selof. Students in building trades work on foundation of new house project. The second JHS building trades house was built next door to the first project. Students sweep off roof before laying down shingles on house. 15 The first building trades house completed in 1979.

Bob Pienschke participates in Johnsburg’s Co-op work pro- gram at Bob’s Auto Shop. Learning Extends Beyond School Walls Students at Johnsburg High School have many oppor- tunities to participate in learning activities outside of school. Some students are enrolled in the JHS Co-op work program and spend part of the school day receiv- ing on the job training. Field trips, individual projects, and other programs also permit students to learn be- yond school walls. JHS football stars Chris Dixon and Rick Szumlas visit kindergarten classes at the Middle School. They explained the game of football to the young- sters, who also heard from several cheerleaders and pom pon girls. Weekly News editor Joe Kost interviews Chicago Bear star Walter Payton. Randy Austin works in a local machine shop as part of the Co-op work program. 16
