Lieutenant Commander Melvin C. Lyons, USN E X u t V e Officer i W ,!llt. w â– lli Lieutenant Commander Lyons was horn in Phoenix, Arizona. He was graduated from the Officer ' s Candidate School, Newport. Rhode Lsland. and commissioned P nsign on Ki February 197:i. His first assignment was Naval Communications Station (Ireece, Nea Makri, Greece as Communications Watch Officer after graduating from Naval Communications School, Newport, [{hode Island. His next assignment was on board USS DAVIS (DD 9. ' J7) as Gunnery Officer and Navigator from -July 1974 to February 1977. In 1977 he attended Surface Warfare Officer Department Head courses in Newport, Rhode Island and then was a.ssigned to USS KINKAII) (DI) 96. ' ' )) as Weapons Officer from February 1978 to February 1980 and to USS FREDER- ICK (LST 1184) from -luly 1980 to April 1982. Following these tours, he reported to .Surface Warfare Officer ' s School, Newport, Rhode Is- land where he was assigned as an Instructor in the Combat Systems Division of the Department Head Training Department. In 1984, he reported to the staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group THRKK where he was assigned as Combat .Systems Officer. Lieutenant Commander Lyons has been awarded seven medals, in- cluding the Navy Commendation Medal. He is married to the former Alida Johnson of Wantagh, New York. They have four children, Kris- tina, Neil, Victoria and Eric.
