Tension was high for the Husky fans. North had an important game against Arlington. Could we win the football game and stay in contention for the league championship? Also who would be crowned 1976 Football Homecoming Queen? The football team won a hard fought victory over Arlington 10-7. During the halftime the shiny cars and 7 floats circled the track. The Queen candidates were all escorted across the field. The girls had started a new tradition by having some of their fathers escort them. Just before the lights went off and the hreworks lit the sky, Kathy Tuttle was crowned the 1976 Football Homecoming Queen. The floats, fireworks, pep rally, parade and the game were successful. 20 fl Y we EQ lliA Shireen Niulla, 1975-1976 Homecoming Queen, returned this year to crown this years Homecoming Queen. Incidently, Shireen is one of the first girls from North to attend Stanford University in Northern California. 22 Q Y t R i .. 1 Tiina Wilson Greg Wilt n it M- da. 1' 2 We . fu .gg .,-- - f '36 . iinia Saucedo Escort Dennis Saucedo The Homecoming Float competition was one of the best ever. Each year the floats become more detailed and this year was no exception. This years theme was Cartoons. The Junior float won with Popeye hovering over the fallen Brutis. The Junior Float concentrated on school spirit where as the Seniors concentrated on class spirit. With Superman representing Super Senior, the Seniors and the Sophomores tied for second. Because it was close to Halloween the Sophomores created Linus ln the pumpkin patch. All in all everyone had a good time. 23 School activities are one of the most important facets of high school life. Becoming involved with the school and the people in it can be both fun and hard work. To arrange an activity you must have a certain amount of responsibility, since many things are involved in putting on an activity. First, an activity must be OK'd and put on the master calender by lVlrs. Hughes and then it must be 0K'd by the USL. Once this is done, the group sponsoring the activity must begin publicizing the event, and it tickets are to be sold, they must be made up and distributed. One of the big activities that the USL sponsored this year was Homecoming week. A difterent event took place each day at lunchtime. Some of these activities were a Paper Airplane Flying Contest, a Tug of War, and wheelbarrow and three-legged races. Also, during Homecoming week one day was declared lVlix-Nlatch Day tyou were supposed to wear the strangest clothes you could come up with.l Other Homecoming Activities sponsored by the USL were the Assembly to introduce the Queen Candidates, the parade down 7th Street to the Public Library, and the half-time activities. But the one activity that proved to me that students at North can do something if they really want to, was raising money for FFF at the traditional . Hreworks display during half-time at the Homecoming game. We needed to raise 5300.00 in two weeks. The USL sponsored a carwash which made 5lS50.00, clubs and organizations donated 5110.00 which left 5140.00 to be raised by the students. The House of Advisory delegates collected money from their classrooms, cans were placed in the Library for donations and entry fees were charged to participate in the lunchtime activities. All this work paid off because we had a check ready to mailto the hreworks company the day of Homecoming. The class that raised the most money was the SENIORS and the clubs that raised the most money were the PEP SQUAD and the POLITICAL SIMULATION Club. Other activities this year were Spring Homecoming and an Ice Cream Eating Contest for the Queen candidates, A Christmas Canned Food Drive- won by lVlr. Ross's class, Action Clean-up Week and one of the most important activities, the nominating Convention in lVlay. The activities for the school year 1976-1977 were fun and lots of work. But I'm glad we had the opportunity to put them on and to participate in them. USL Director of Activities Julie Rogers 24 Hctivities I Q . Some were informative, while others were just funny. Both of our Homecoming assemblies were well done, and the candidates will long remember them. Many things were learned during high school. When asked what they thought about North High School, we got the following replies. lVly most memorable experiences have been the 1976 football season and my U.S.L. presidency. This year's winning season was the highlight of my North High football career. Our reaching the CIF playoffs was a goal that we have been striving for since my sophomore year. The pride, discipline and leadership that I obtained during my four years on the football held has enabled me to deal with the certain situations that might come to the USL council. The challenge of the USL presidency has been quite enjoyable. The memorable experiences of attending North High cannot be narrowed to one or two particular instances, but if I had to make a choice, I'd include them all by saying, the experience of attending North High has been memorable. Randy Ellison The most memorable moment in my four years at North was Christmas vacation. Darryl Jones North will be remembered by all who attended. High school successes must now be left behind and new goals set. URemember this your lifetime through- Tomorrow, there will be more to do . . And failure waits for all who stay With some success made yesterday . . . Tomorrow, you must try once more And even harder than before. But there is no mountain high enough to keep you from achieving the goal you really want. High school is like standing on a cliff's edge. Each year you get closer to falling off. A Junior is almost off the cliff - almost ready to fly into adulthood - almost grown The mountains symbolize all our goals we wish to reach and in this, our Junior year we had a chance to take a llpeeld' at them. 69 Teresa Abbott Jody Adams Gerald Aguilar Keith Alex Ronald Allen Holly Allred Priscilla Alvarez Duana Anderson Veronica Arias Roy Armstrong Janet Aubert Gloria Ault Valerie Avila Lee Baird Juanita Bamforth Diana Bauman Sandra Beets Nlarie Beiser lVlark Bellamy Karen Bergkvist Debra Betz Dennis Blair Barrett Boucher Karen Bowen Lynette Bowen Richard Box Brett Boyd Linda Boyer fl 4' 1 H ff ' fn f Z f . i fx it 5 fn , QL 'J J ,- 'si'i xi More 'iilifiisii 'lffiify 17152 ff:'i' 1' H Vykh , fl' wf , ..,, f 'gf ll'- JJ i i J it,, , tti J . iiio of i e Wwwwwwmwz WW?WiWWMV f ,, A W Q E' i 45' v ' W , A 1, Q ir- 'J mimi I W ii i , 2 A is ibbb J i lgyk lm -J, :Jar ff- JJ VJ, iioi fiii 'L l 1 'fi i ' , ' 1 H il , ly y A 'ifi - ,, , , Q ' J isrb F' J W ' J 1 5 ' W f' L ,, J 531 risoio A o iii o lloi A ,,,, J W iii my m-wmf HA ,fW?L irreo eiiii eitowmw i,b. This year's team was the youngest team in North's history. Never before has the IVY league had a team which started three sophomores and two juniors. This year's team had steadily progressed and next year's should be a very strong team with a years experience behind them. This season saw the Huskies win the Corona Tournament with Richard Box being selected IVIVP and Dwayne Simms being selected on the all-tourney team. The Huskies Hnished 3rd in the Rubidoux Tournament, 55 Caf- 5 where Box was All-Tournament. In league play, North gave Rubidoux its biggest defeat. Several narrow defeats kept the Huskies from the CIF playoffs. Balanced scoring helped the Huskies on offense. All live starters, Dwayne Simms, Richard Box, Don Barnes, George Smith, and Wendel Horn averaged close to double Hgures in league. The Junior Varsity won the Elk's Junior Varsity basketball tournament and finished in Hrst place in the IVY league.
