e of the founding Dirt Band members are still yrming with the Band. They include Jeff Hanna, lie Fadden, and pictured here — John McEuen. Concert provides an evening of IRT! We want Dirt ... We want Dirt ... The crowd chanted to bring on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for the first fall concert of 1986. And the audience in Wisdom Gym got what they wanted. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was first formed in 1967 and have been performing for 19 years. Three of the founding mem- bers are still with the band: Jeff Hanna, Jim- mie Fadden, and John McEuen. Since the band’s formation, Bobby Carpenter and Jimmmy Ibbotson have joined one of the longest lived bands in music history. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band proved excel- lent entertainers. Their music consisted of a variety of styles — it offered something to every one regardless of musical preference. Their mellow, country ballads along with up- beat contemporary country-rock songs blended into a powerful concert. Their most famous release “‘Will The Cir- cle Be Unbroken’, a country classic, was included in their performance. “Shot Full of Love”’ and “‘Sharecropper’s Dream”’ were also included in their many hits performed. During the band’s performance of such old favorites such as ““Rocky Top” the audience participation was at it’s peak. The reaction of the crowd proved that the Special Events Committee had planned well for a night the students would enjoy. p 3% @% ear Ee Miah, licpalinliply? at tam a. hy mai fie Le Ve Members of the Special Events Committee were re- sponsible for setting up the Gym, as well as for the clean up afterwards. The newest official Dirt Band member, Bobby Carpen- ter, played keyboards and provided many of the back- ground vocals and harmonies during the performance. Opening for the Dirt Band was Houston singer-song writer Lyle Lovitt, who has just released his first album.
