N carrying out the architectural theme in this 1936 Iedition 0f the Grassburr, we have attempted to portray the advance and development of architecture by pre- senting various stages in its progress. Each generation or nation adds its bit to the architecture ofits time and adds its influence upon the architecture of the future. Every period of architecture has had the successes and the fail- ures of the preceding periods with which to work. One might compare the development of a great style of architecture to the development ofa student attending school. The student must begin at the bottom and pro- gress upwarderetaining that which is worthwhile. dis- carding that which is uninteresting and unsatisfactory. It is the sincere hope of the staff that we have presented a worthwhile and educational theme for your approval or disapproval. We have tried also to make this book as representative of campus, classroom. athletic, and social life in Tarleton as we possibly could.
